Wildlands

The Wildlands were originally settled by the giant kingdoms, and this is where the bulk of the giant/dragon war was fought. The dragons brought their massed armies of beastfolk (kobolds, bugbears, gnolls, lizardfolk, kenku etc., all led by the Dragonborn) while the giants brought forth their own forces (orcs, goliaths, ogres, trolls etc., led by rageborn).   The Wildlands is a land of divides. The western regions, made up of Silvervale and the Stonelands are the home to what the Wildlanders call, the "Free People". The Free People include humans, elves, dwarves, hin, gnomes, dragonborn, tabaxi (catfolk) and others who refuse to bow to the giantspawn.   To the north of the "free lands" sprawls the Giantdowns. Once firmly in control of the giants, the dragonarmies pushed most of the invaders back in ancient times. Ancient giant barrows are sometimes uncovered and small tribes of hill giants live in these lands. Few of the Free People live in the Giantdowns, and the largest free settlement is the village of Jarna. An aged Annika Stormdaughter rules the village as jarl, and it is said she has some supernatural power over the giant clans, protecting the village from giant raids. Annika is a large woman, nearly seven feet tall, and solidly built with silver hair. She is known to pay well for relics and artifacts of the giant races, and few know as much about the giant folk as Annika.   The Stonelands and Silvervale are protected from the giantspawn by two dangerous rivers. The Tusk River divides the two regions and is the deeper and wider of the two rivers. The Tusk starts in the Whitecrowns and flows south then east to Lake Rumael, dividing the free lands from Gredanor, kingdom of the orcs. In the spring, when the ancient war would normally begin anew, the Tusk is prone to flooding and even flash floods. Many an orcish horde has been swept away by a river surge trying to cross the Tusk, and most of the wiser orcish chieftains don't think it worth the effort to try. Some of the orc tribes suggest that the fey folk of Selenadil actually are able to control the rivers and use it as a weapon against the orcs.   The Dunwater River divides the Stonelands from the Giantdowns. Fed by many smaller streams and rivers, it doesn't gather its strength until miles from the Whitecrowns. It is less predictable than the Tusk, bust still prone to flooding and storm surges.   The Kingfisher River defines the southern border of Silvervale. It is fed by numerous streams from high in the Whitecrowns and deep within the Nettleblight Swamp. While less prone to flooding than the Tusk, it is wider and deeper, with few places for any easy crossing.   East of the Tusk and Dunwater are savage lands. In the south, are the orcish lands of Gredanor. Moving north are the Fallen Fields, where much of the historic war between the dragons and the giants were fought. The ruins of ancient fortifications and battlefields lost to time riddle this region and undead hordes rule the night. North of the Fallen Fields are the Goblin Marches where goblinoid armies seek to dominate all around them.   The northern lands of the Wildlands are firmly under the control of giantish forces. The giantdowns and the surrounding Whitecrowns still host small tribes of giants while the plains of Rarach'cral host surprisingly canny ogres tribes who delight in ambushing travelers and war with the gnoll hordes who also inhabit the plains. The Trolldeep is on the border of the giant kingdom of Hjalmar and, unsurprisingly, is infested with troll tribes and villages.
