Arugal

Arugal is a bit shorter than his peers at 5' 7". He weighs 185 lbs. and has a bulky frame, though no one would ever call him heavy. His grey hair and beard is kept neatly trimmed. Arugal is a perfectionist in his dress, most of his clothing is tailored and he never seems to get dirty, even after a day spent with his students on the riverbank teaching herbal lore.

Personal history

Arugal is one of the lead professors at Neldath University. A researcher into planar lore, outsiders, and the multiverse, he is known for being very meticulous and something of a perfectionist in his papers and studies. He emphasizes the dangers of the unknown to his students and expects them to thoroughly research any actions they undertake.
Arugal is one of a handful of mages in the entire grand duchy that has mastered higher magic (considered spells of the 6th order and above). In fact he is capable of casting spells of the seventh order. His specialization in conjuration and planar lore and theory has been called upon by King Alaric and now Grand Duke Arthien and their advisors many times, but he disdains the squabbles of the noble houses and the nobility, firmly but politely turning down invitations to noble balls and events.
He has been approached several times by the Arcanum of Maddaford College and the Prismatic Order of Archewood Hall for membership, but has also declined those invitations, saying rather gruffly that his loyalty is to Brineven and Neldath University alone.
Those who know him best will eventually hear him speak of a long-lost love when he was a young man. He comments that it was a different time, and people were much more particular. His magical studies as a conjuror "among other things" stood in the way of their relationship. When push came to shove, Arugal wouldn't give up his magic, and the two parted. Some think that this lost love was a member of the nobility, and that is why Arugal distances himself from them. Other theories exist, but Arugal has never revealed anything more.

Mannerisms

When speaking, Arugal tends to pick his words carefully, often creating awkward pauses in the conversation. He doesn't speak about himself often, and tends to keep conversations professional. Arugal is always impeccably dressed. He wears his professorial sash to all public events.
