Half Elf
The children of Elves and Humans...
Half Elves are a mixed race that live in the world of Araes. They are born from the union of Elven and Human relationships. Half elves share similar characteristics to both their Elven kin and their Human kin. These similarities often vary depending on what attributes and genes influences the baby's creation.
It should be noted that while Half elves can also apply to the union of Elves and another race, the Term is "Half elf" is almost exclusively used to describe a person who shares Elven and Human traits as they are the most common with other forms of half elves being extremely rare. A union of Elf and Dwarf would be referred to as a Dwelf, for example.

Basic Information
Anatomy
The overall build of Half Elves are very similar to both Human and Elven builds. They walk upright with four limbs that make up two arms and two legs with 10 total fingers and toes. The skeletal structure of Half elves a little stronger compared to Elves but not as strong as the regular Human, though there has been exceptions in both aspects. Half Elves are typically taller than the average Human though just a bit shorter than the average Elf.
Half Elves are typically more dexterous and acrobatic than the average Human but not as much as Elves. The main key feature that is unique to Half Elves are the ears which are pointed, similar to Elves, but do not extend as far as regular Elven ears. Half Elves almost always take their eye colour from their Elven side, often sporting lighter coloured eyes.

Genetics and Reproduction
Both the Elves and Humans share similar reproduction and Half Elves are no different. The coupling of reproductive organs to conceive and offspring and its creation within a womb, typically taking nine months before the baby is born.
It should be noted, however, that the attributes Half Elves have diminish with each generation. For example if a Half Elf has a baby with a Human, the child will be more human. And if that child grows up and has a baby with a human, that baby would be even more human. Similar occurrence happens with elves. If a Half Elf has a baby with an Elf, the baby will be more Elf.

Growth Rate & Stages
Unlike Elves, Half Evles grow and mature at a similar rate as Humans, Reaching physical maturity and biologically defined as an adult by 16 or so. However, after a few years of maturing, the aging of a Half elf begins to slow down. Half Elves begin to slow down in aging when they reach roughly 20 years old and become elderly at around 160 years old with most Half Elves dying of old age at around 200 years old with some exceptions.
While this may be a fairly short lifespan compared to the Elves, it is still over twice the lifespan of the Average Human.

Dietary Needs and Habits
Half Elves, much like their Elven and Human kin, are omnivores and are able to eat a variety of meats, fruits and vegetables. Similar to the other races, they don't have any natural immunity to the poisons that affect both Humans and Elves. Half Elves do share a very similar metabolism to Elves, allowing them to process food easier and not get drunk as easily as Humans.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
As Half Elves are the product of Human and Elven relationships, they do not have a specific origin. Half Elves can be found around most of the world of Araes though they are more commonly found in the Continents of Aluin and Theolin. The two continents being the origins of Humans and Elves respectfully.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Half Elves often have superior vision compared to humans. Their eyes allow them to see clearer in the dark and their overall vision is much clearer at further distances compared to Humans. However their vision is not as superior compared to regular Elves.
Similar to their vision, Half Elves have a much more focused sense of hearing. While not as good as regular Elven hearing, Half Elves can easily hear more subtle sounds as well as focus on specific sounds out of a group of sounds, making it easier to pick out certain sounds in a more noisy environment, unlike most Humans.
Half Elves are, also, more attuned to the Anima that appears in and around everything, allowing them to have a natural understanding of magic though more limited compared to Elves.

Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Half Elves do not have any specific naming traditions but instead adopt the naming traditions of Humans and Elves. They names depend on the family and their choice of name, along with the family name. If the parents share a Human family name, then the child will share that name. Likewise for an Elven family name. They first name would be chosen by the family or guardian meaning it could be any name whether that be Human, Elven, or any other name.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Half Elves would often learn both Human and Elven languages, their first language often being based on where they are raised while learning the second language from their family. For example, a Half Elf living with Elves would mainly speak Elven but would most likely know how to speak in a Human tongue due to his Human family member. And, likewise, with a Half Elf in a Human settlement mainly talking in that language while having a knowledge of Elven from their parent.
Historical Figures
There are many well known Half Elves in the world of Araes. One of the most notable historical figures would be Prince Yielden Cindercrest of Lador who grew up in the First Age before the fall of Lador in the First Great War. He was well known and liked throughout the Kingdom of Lador for his kindness and generosity and would later be known for his death during the fall of Yielden Keep.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Half Elves can have relationships with any other race in the world of Araes, depending on the local laws. However, as noted previously, if a Half Elf has a baby with a Human, that baby would have more human traits than Elven. And similarly if a Half Elf has a baby with an Elf, the baby would have more Elven traits than Human. With each generation the mixt attributes would begin to diminish unless there are other interracial relationships in the family tree.
