Prince Yielden

The young prince of Lador...

Prince Yielden Cindercrest

Prince Yielden Cindercrest was a Prince from the Kingdom of Lador and son of King Avon Cindercrest and Queen Lierin Cindercrest.

Early life

Queen Lierin gave birth to Yielden during the final days of construction on the new Keep of Lador. With a Human father and an Elven mother, Yielden was born a Half Elf, with the potential to live twice as long as regular humans. His Elven half meant he grew up with better vision than most humans and slightly more agile. Yielden's birth was a joyous day for the King and Queen. King Avon promptly renamed the Keep to Yielden Keep and made it the new capital of Lador. The King believed all future kings should call the newly build citadel their home.   Yielden would grow up to be an adventurous young prince known for a deep interest to learn more about the world and its people. From a young age, the young prince would learn combat alongside the other boys living in the Keep. While he was not the most proficient fighter, his spirit and quick thinking often gave him the edge needed to hold is own and even win a few sparring matches against his peers. He was well respected among the other Squires and the knights training the boys would regularly commend the prince on his determination.   The young prince had a love for learning. The king provided his son a variety of tutors to learn reading and writing, mathematics, astronomy and astrology, geography, history and even a basic level of Anima magic and Alchemy. Yielden was well known for his bold, and often sassy, behaviour. His teachers would often mention his very cheeky personality though the young prince was a very kind soul and cared deeply for those around him, often doing his best to cheer people up when they were feeling down. While his peers recognised and respected his title of "Prince", they also saw him as a good friend. The young prince was also considered a close friend and godson to the Dwarven King, Foril, who would often give the prince council and advice.

The Great War

During the Autumn of 2577 of the First Age, the First Great War began with the invasion of the Kingdom of Lador. Legions of Orcs flooded into the mining towns from the tunnels. It is unknown where the dark armies, lead by the Grim Order of Kala, originally came from nor how they were able to amass such a large army unnoticed. The kingdom was ill prepared for such a brutal campaign. The Orcish legions blitzed their way across the Peninsula of Lador, slaughtering the kingdoms citizens and razing the towns and villages.   Yielden, who was only fourteen at the beginning of the war, would witness the mass influx of refugees from the kingdom as they fled to the Keep. The young prince would regularly leave the tower and aid the people himself, offering any food and drink that could be spared and kept people company. Yielden sat in the council while the King would be briefed on the dire situation and helped plan their next moves. A few months into the war, the king deployed a portion of his army to push back the invasion. The prince hoped to join his father in the campaign however the King refused. His father told his Yielden that, as prince, he should remain at the Keep and lead their people in the King's absence. In the months to follow, Yielden would do everything in his power to keep the people safe and the morale high, often at the expense of his own mental well being. The young prince became depressed, knowing better than most of the severity of the situation, but kept a brave and kind appearance around his people.   Eventually his father would return with only a third of his army, having failed to push back the aggressors. The dark armies had taken or razed most of the kingdom and, despite his best efforts, the king had to retreat with what was left of his army. Most of Yielden's friends, who he had trained with to be squires, never made it back. The king sent out a messenger to his nearest ally, the Dwarves of Thindolir, and began preparations to hold out against the inevitable siege.

The Fall of Yielden Keep

Not long after the King's return, the Dark Armies of the Grim Order began to siege Yielden Keep. The Orcish legions tried to breach the Keep's walls for months with little success. However, the Keep was beginning to run low and the situation was becoming desperate. The young prince held out hope that reinforcements would arrive from his godfather in Thindolir, but it was uncertain whether or not they would arrive in time.   One evening during the April of 2578 of the First Age, the keep would come under siege from the largest army of orcs ever faced during the war. Trebuchets and ballistas were fired at each other, damaging the walls and withering away and the invading army. Massive Orc siege engines rolled towards the walls, mostly destroyed before they could reach the walls though few did manage to connect with the wall. The Orcs attacked on the walls for a time before being pushed back and their siege engines burnt to the ground. It seemed to be another hard earned victory. Then came the terrible roar from the sky. The dark lord, Nal'loth, unleashed a Wyvern unto the people of Yielden Keep. The horrid beast shorshed the city and destroyed its walls with great effect. The young prince could only watch in horror from the ground as the beast burnt what remained of his people. Eventually the Wyvern was slain by the guard leader, Lord Edwin, taking the monster down with him. But the damage was already done and the Dark Army flooded into the Keep, mercilessly slashing at everyone in their way. The king as his Royal Guard fell back to the tower and ordered his Son and Queen to escape through the tunnel, in the hopes they would survive.   Little did they know, Orcs had already breached a part of the lower levels and began to invade the tower. Queen Lierin, Yielden's mother, unsheathed her sword and engaged the Orcs in a desperate attempt to protect her son as he attempted to unlock the passageway into the tunnels. The Elven queen of Lador, slashed away at the Orc attackers, keeping them at bay. Yielden would unlock the passage, only to hear the terrible scream from his mother. The Queen was slain by a Ghoul, a foul undead creature that followed the dark armies into combat in the hopes of fresh meat. The young prince ran as the Queen feel. But he could not outrun the orcs chasing him. Orcs bread for war and hunting. Yienden was swiftly captured and taken to the top of the tower. Where his father would later be pushed back to as his guard fell one by one.

Death

At the age of fifteen, Prince Yielden was executed in front of his father, King Avon, by the Orc general. He suffered a fatal stab wound to the neck from a serrated Orcish dagger and thrown towards his father. The young prince quickly bled out and died on the floor. The Orc general, before executing the King Avon, wanted the fallen King to know that his lineage was broken and the Kingdom of Lador has, well and truly, fallen.
The prince's body was discarded shortly after. It is unknown where Yielden and the rest of the royal family rest.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

The young prince was of average height and relatively slim. Due to years of training he was fairly toned and healthy, often taking care of his diet and overall fitness. He had golden blond hair which he would often have cut short as to stop it from going over his eyes and obscuring his vision. His eyes were a deep sapphire blue, his half elf nature gave him the ability to see further and to see in the dark clearer.

Apparel & Accessories

Unlike his Parents, who often wore the usual elegant clothing of kings and queens, Yielden often wore his squire clothing. If not his uniform then other forms of generally utilitarian clothing.
