Wand of Opening
In the world of Realm 79: The Junction, wands of opening were once a common magical item.
They could be used to instantly open most non-magical locks, essentially acting as casting the Knock spell. It could also be used to suddenly force open closed or jammed doors.
These items, commonly produced for profit, were eventually banned in the nation of Rotterdam, where the wands were largely produced and used, resulting in the wands essentially becoming contraband worldwide.
The reason for the ban on the wands were that they became primarily used in robberies and, by giving magical abilities to any common person, were responsible for numerous crime waves.
One particular wand of opening, discovered after they were prohibited, was identified by seers as divinely blessed. It was believed it would serve a "great purpose" one day, in saving the royal line of a divine and noble monarchy.
Further magical studies of the object proved fruitless. But, out of superstition, the wand was held in high esteem, and considered a collector's item of great value.
Some critics claim this story was fabricated around the wand, merely to justify its possession by common criminals. Others claim this exact story was attributed to multiple wands of opening, and used to essentially sell the wands under false pretenses, by claiming they were being trafficked as collectors items, instead of as a tool of burglary.

Mechanics & Inner Workings
These wands contain finite charges, similar to rings of spell storing. They must be recharged "manully" (by casting knock into them for stoarge) but every recharge attempt makes the wand more volatile and prone to malfunciton or destruciton.
