Humanism
Humanism is the belief that humans were created first by Helifex.
The Five Heresies
In humanism, there are a total of five heresies that one can believe in that would warrent your ex-communication from the faith, and be dammed to Augoth, the place of the Twice-Dead. The five heresies, from least offending to greatest, are Undeserving, Unfullfilled, Uncanny, Unrighteousness, and Unworthiness.Hierarchy
Indentured
The lowest of the ranks within Humanism, Indentured are those that have lived a sinful life, stealing, brawling, or murdering. It is also the rank any non-human member must begin with. Indentureds must do good deeds and practice their faith faithfully in order to raise their rank to Congregant. Congregants and higher positions may also be deranked to Indentured for a time as punishment for a sin.Congregant
Congregant is the most common rank among those who practice Humanism, encompassing most believers. It is the highest rank that those of non-human origin and female members can attain.Mansworth
Mansworth are helpers of the church and take care of the menial day-to-day tasks of supporting the church in its location. The most daunting task for them is usually lighting the hundreds of candles within each church. When they have done their duties for long enough and have proven themselves capable of ascending rank, many mansworth find themselves offered the choice of becoming a benevolent, or going down the path of templarship.Benevolent
Benevolents are a high ranking class within Humanism. They are responsible for holding weekly washings of their church's congregation. If the situation is dire enough, and their environment has called for it, benevolents are able to lead "purging parties" with a group of concilators across towns and the countryside to purge the land of degeneracy.Arbiter
The Arbiters are leaders of churches and chapters. They are the highest rank that can be acquired within Humanism that holds more than one member. Decades of fasting, utmost devotion, and dicipline is required for an arbiter to be chosen by the Allfather himself. Arbiters are able to request an audience with the Allfather himself, and are often in the courts of the thirteen kings and queens of Roscrea.Allfather
The most sacred of roles within Humanism, the Allfather is the spiritual guide of all humans for the duration of his life. He is believed to be handpicked by Helifex himself and communes with humanity on their behalf with Helifex. The Allfather can typically be found within the emperor's court or leading affairs in the Great Temple of Helifex. The Allfather has the special ability to launch a crusade, even against the consent of the Emperor. The Allfather is also the spiritual guide to the Emperor and helps guide him in private prayers and attends worship at the side of him as well. It is believed after the death of an Allfather, they will ascend straight to Ethilbegus, never stepping foot in Demise's Rest. Once there, the Allfather will help rule Ethilbegus along with the past Allfathers.Atonement
In Humanism, it is believed one must cleanse themselves from the sin and filth of the world so that when they are ready to inherit the Mantle of Responsibility, they may do so. Humans practice the act of washing to cleanse themselves, in which they are dunked in holy water by a Benevolent or Arbiter until they can nearly no longer remain consciousness. They must do this weekly in order to rid themselves of sin and filth. Benevolents and Arbiters will constantly ask worshippers if they have washed this week, with it almost becoming a humorous catch phrase for them.Holy Wars
Holy Wars are times of great strife within the Empire in which the Allfather declares a Holy War in order to rid a region of degeneracy and heresy. It is during these times that higher-ranking members of the hierarchy are turned into War Priests and lead the Conciliators- and usually the Roscrean Military to war until "Equilibrium" is achieved, only decreed by word of the All-father when he believes the degeneracy and heresy has been subdued enough to end the Holy War. There have only been two Holy Wars throughout history; the first being against Kingdom Lanches, as many were being deceived and corrupted by both Ork shamans from the south, as well as lasting Vardux influence in the region. The second was against Kiyumade, as many in the region came to openly denounce Humanism and follow their own religions. The Second Holy War came not without controversy, as many argue that Kiyumade should not be made to follow the same customs of the Empire, since it is not in direct control of the region and some of the inhabitants do not even declare themselves to be human.Military
The Conciliators
The Concilators are a military group specifically created in order to protect Humanism. They answer to their benevolents and are often called "The Arm of Helifex". They believe themselves to be Helifex's will made manifest. Many congregants often choose between ascending in rank and joining the concilators. In order to join the group, extensive training must be done and many oaths must be sworn. The Righteous Templars
The Righteous Templars are the elite of the concilators. They have sworn the ultimate oath, and will stop at nothing to rid the Empire of Roscrea from degeneracy. Many believe that they will rest upon the bosom and hind of Helifex in his realm of Ethilbegus when they arrive from Demise's Rest. The Knight Houses of Roscrea
While not officially aligned with Humanism, the Knights of Roscrea answer to the government of the Empire, but often work closely with the concilators and the Righteous Templars, as their respective goals of keeping honor and chivalry in the land aligns closely with Human's goal of ridding humanity of sin.
