The Poacher of Vlaadwald

In the province of Vlaadwald, legend tells of a hunter who stalks the forest after the sun has set, crumbling to dust with dawn yet rising again with the haunted mists of dusk.   In year 1206 of the Eyn calendar, the Count of Ostwestern came across a lone hunter out in the forest. This hunter apparently was not following the correct rituals to ensure that felled game did not spontaneously reanimate on the cursed and blackened forest soil, and was by the law of land declared to be a poacher even if the man's hunting was otherwise legal. The hunter was bound and dragged back to face justice in Ostwestern. The villagers were not kind to the man, pelting him with stones and zombified apples before swiftly stringing him up from the Tree of Ropes in the village green. They say that before he perished, skeletal pigeons took his eyes.   Ironically for the nature of the hunter's crime, the legend says that the villagers of Ostwestern did not follow the correct rituals when they buried him, and by morning the grave was empty. Now, a sightless poacher stalks the forest after dark, a gaunt man with bone white skin and with two tattered cloth patches over his eyes. He hides in the haunted mist, silently creeping up on his next victim with a black arrow knocked to the string of a black hunter's bow.

I like this! Just a very solid little piece of fiction. Also, "zombie apples"??

Thank you!   Yes, zombie apples. Even fruit will re-animate if you let them fall onto the cursed soil of Vlaadwald. They can't do much though, beside give off a general aura of maliciousness.
