Mirat Character in Witch World | World Anvil

Mirat

Among the villages which lie along the northern shores of Carawall Lake, and the forest which hugs it, they speak of one named Mirat. Few have seen him but many have claimed to have felt his influence, and everyone knows he is the source of every bad joke that has ever been told. Some say he is a deity of trickery, others a bored spirit of the forest but no one is really sure. Regardless, the tales of his existence go back hundreds of years in this region.   Throughout the tales, his appearance is diferent depending on who tells it, but one thing remains the same. Upon his face is a scar which resembles that of a cloven hoof. One of the most enduring stories claims that he received it when he was expelled from the land of the Gods. It is said that he came upon the Goddess Hemenea while she was grazing in the celestial fields, she found the form of a large cow to be quite relaxing, and told her a joke so bad that it soured the milk in her udders. She was understandably upset at this and kicked the young Mirat so hard he was sent hurtling down to the mortal realms below. He still bears the imprint of her cloven hoof to this day.   The stories also speak of his friendship with J'Cob. It is said that when Mirat fell from the skies he landed on the shores of Carawall lake with such a noise as to disturb the blue man of the lake. When he came to investigate he found the injured Mirat telling jokes to the nearby ducks who were looking visibly distressed. J'cob however, found the jokes to be hillarious and nursed the young man back to health. The two are said to be firm friends.
