Ianthe (a.k.a. the Knitter, the Scholar, Yanti)
The knitter and scholar who lives in Easlington.
Physical Description
Ianthe is one of the few people in Easlington who could afford to invest in corrective glasses.
Ianthe's blood mage is tied to temperature regulation. She usually uses spells to keep cold boxes in the floor of her home which allow her to store dairy, fresh meat, and vegetables for longer periods of time. She can also work spells into the things she knits, often to protect the wearer from extremes of cold or heat. As a child, she demonstrated her talent by unconsciously keeping the air around her at a comfortable temperature regardless of the weather or time of year.
Mental characteristics
Ianthe's father taught his wife and children to read. After this, it was impossible to keep Ianthe from reading every book she could find. She has a sizable collection of books ranging from history and folktales to fiction novels and poetry. She is self-taught in the areas of social etiquette, human psychology, and Chereladian history.
Ianthe knits and crochets on commission, usually for barter or limited coin. She also acts as a scholar for illiterate locals and the message center for the Easlington area.
When she was sixteen, Ianthe's sister, Tania was accused of being a blood-mage and burned at the stake. Ianthe tried first to control the temperatures around her little sister and then tried to heal the burns afterward. It took Joel's intervention to keep Ianthe from killing herself trying to save their sister. Ianthe continues to blame herself for her sister's death, since the blood-mage activity Tania was accused of was Ianthe's.
Ianthe is intensely curious and loves to read about new things. Quick-minded and insightful, she learns everything she can. She can be cynical at times, especially in regards to the class divide in Chereladi.
Personality Characteristics

Dislikes: arrogance, entitlement, slimy food
Social
Ianthe lives with Ivan, an orange-and-white short-hair cat. She is occasionally visited by a younger orange-and-white named Pip. She feeds Pip when he's around but he does not stay with her for long.

History
Nikolas's upbringing and education allowed him the opportunity to teach his wife and children to read, in spite of their lower class station. He brought with it his passion for learning and none of the children sparked to it quite like Ianthe. They spent many hours huddled around candles with their heads bent together over a book.

History
Before Ayden was born, Ianthe had never considered ever being a mother. She still isn't particularly fond of children in general, but Ayden is a special case. They have been very close since he was old enough to recognize her and Joel jokingly calls him "Ayden the Wonderchild," because of Ianthe's enormous fondness for him.
Nicknames & Petnames
Ayden primarily calls Ianthe "Yanti."
