Volothamp Geddarm

(a.k.a. Volo)

Volothamp Geddarm is a well-known explorer, author, and self-declared expert on the unusual and arcane. His guidebooks have made him famous across Faerûn, though many question their accuracy and academic value. Despite his reputation for exaggeration, Volo remains a recognizable and often welcome presence in adventuring circles. His unusually long life has fueled rumors of magical longevity, but Volo claims it is simply the result of clean living and good fortune.

Connection to the Party

The party first met Volo at the Yawning Portal after assisting in repelling a troll attack. Impressed by their bravery, he hired them to locate his missing friend, Floon Blagmaar. Upon Floon’s safe return, Volo offered them the deed to Trollskull Manor as payment when he could not provide the promised gold. This act gave the party their first permanent base and indirectly led to the creation of the Frightened Ferret.

Conflict with Sigmund Brandtner

Volo expressed open disdain for Sigmund Brandtner when the professor’s name came up during the party’s investigation into doppelganger activity. Years prior, Sigmund had executed a doppelganger Volo had once loved. The event left a deep impression on Volo and shaped his view of Sigmund as a dangerous fanatic. Though visibly shaken by the memory, Volo encouraged the party to judge the man for themselves. Following Sigmund’s death, the party took in Sabine, a doppelganger who had narrowly escaped execution. Volo met her during a debriefing with the group and responded with surprising warmth and empathy. He expressed sorrow for her suffering and gratitude toward the party for treating her with compassion.

Current Whereabouts

Shortly before the investigation into the Quillwright Massacre, the party received word that Volo had left Waterdeep, leaving his "niece" in the care of mutual friends. His departure was described as business-related, but no one has seen him since. His exact destination remains unknown.
