Grey Market
The Grey Market is a narrow, two-story shop tucked between unassuming businesses in the Trades Ward. Its entrance is marked by a modest, faded wooden sign with no more than an intricate pattern of interlocking circles. To the untrained eye, the symbol looks like an artistic flourish, but those in the know recognize it as a stylized representation of the multiverse—a hint at the exotic wares within.
A sign behind the counter indicates custom orders on rare and extraplanar items. Special orders require a 10% non-refundable deposit, priced per realm as follows:
Exterior
The shopfront itself is understated, almost camouflaging among the surrounding buildings. Faded grey paint and worn stone steps give it a timeworn look, as if it has been in business longer than anyone can remember. While the front windows are partially curtained with dark fabric, just enough of the display is visible to reveal glimpses of fascinating oddities, inviting passersby to step closer for a better look. Subtle details, such as the peculiar herbs lining the windowsill and faint, otherworldly symbols carved into the door frame, set it apart from typical storefronts.Interior Layout
Upon entering, customers are greeted by the dim light of magical sconces embedded in the walls. The lighting is intentionally low, creating an intimate atmosphere that contrasts sharply with the brightness of the bustling ward outside. The shop floor is laid out in a cramped, maze-like fashion, with narrow pathways winding between tall shelves and display cases. Each shelf seems haphazardly stuffed with items from across realms, from planar curiosities to rare spell components. The Grey Market is divided into a few distinct sections:Spell Components by Plane
Toward the left, there is a large shelving unit organized meticulously by realm of origin—Feywild, Underdark, Plane of Fire, and more. Each section holds an assortment of rare spell components, each one labeled with its name, realm, and a brief description of its uses in arcane rituals. A small brass plaque advises customers to ask for assistance if they wish to handle any of the more volatile items.The Trinket Alcove
A cozy nook near the back wall is reserved for smaller, intriguing trinkets from around the multiverse. Amulets, stones with curious etchings, fragments of enchanted glass, and other strange baubles rest in mismatched trays. While some of these items have mild enchantments, others are mundane artifacts with unusual histories, each accompanied by a hand-written card detailing its origin.The Exotic Item Cabinet
Locked behind glass, this cabinet displays a limited selection of rare magical items for sale. A sign above reads“Special Orders Available—Success Not Guaranteed.”
