Erasmus Kallor was the High
Harper operative in
Waterdeep, known for his calm authority, impeccable professionalism, and deep ties to powerful factions. Erasmus cultivated trust across the city, carefully manipulating information circulating between the more covert factions. His outward persona was approachable, intelligent, and reliable—an ideal Harper whose loyalty to Waterdeep seemed absolute. However, this image was shattered following his violent confrontation with the party, which exposed Erasmus as an
infernal doppelganger and led to his destruction. His encounter with the party made them realize much more was going on around them than they had ever glimpsed before.
History
The Fall of the Quillwrights
When
Gideon Quillwright, newly established head of
House Quillwright, refused to fulfill a demand to publish a smear campaign against the Master of Coin
Lirian Deepvault, Erasmus acted swiftly and lethally. Gideon and his entire family were found slaughtered in what was officially declared to be a murder-suicide. The scandal Gideon had refused to create was published anyway, resulting in the political downfall of the previous Master of Coin and paving the way for
Victoro Cassalanter’s appointment. At the time, no one suspected Erasmus’s involvement.
Revelation and Death
Erasmus’s identity unraveled during a mission involving the party, at the behest of
Threestrings, investigated the obvious coverup. The investigation had the party crossing swaths of the city before leading them back to Erasmus' secret lair beneath
Quillwright Manor and a confrontation with his top
doppelganger minions and eventually Erasmus himself. In the aftermath, further investigation revealed that Erasmus had once been Quentin Quillwright—the long-dead eldest son of the late
Horace Quillwright. By Erasmus' own claim, Quentin had been sacrificed by his father in exchange for influence over Waterdeep's press and intelligence community.
