Darian Windriven
Darian Windriven was the son of Elara, and a respected North Ward captain in the City Watch of Waterdeep. He was killed in the line of duty, and his body was expected to be returned to his grieving mother. However, sometime after his death, the Watch lost track of his remains, and Elara was left without closure.
Some time later, while the party was pursuing leads in their search for the Infernal Doppelganger Erasmus Kallor, they encountered a strange figure clad in City Watch armor. When approached, the figure rasped, “Father says find the bard…” before attacking. Once subdued, it was revealed to be a kind of undead unlike any the party had seen—its veins and arteries replaced by twisted vines that pulsed with unnatural energy. The nameplate on its breastplate identified it as Captain Darian Windriven.
A piece of parchment was found tucked into his armor, bearing the address of an apartment above the tavern, suggesting he had been directed or compelled to seek out Erasmus. Who or what reanimated Darian—and the identity of the "Father" he referred to—remains a mystery.
