Also known as the Devilray, the Squallsire and the Sailor's Dismay, the Stormsaugur is an unusual Kaiju in that it does not attack ships or shoreward settlements directly, but is instead a herald that signals the coming of particularly horrific storms off the Sunken Expanse. If one counts the storms as this kaiju's own creation, however, its death toll is easily one of the highest of the great sea monsters, potentially placing it in the pantheon of the demigodlike Benthic Titans.

The Stormsaugur is also unusual in that it has been spotted across vast distances covering nearly the entire plane, as opposed to other kaiju who tend to maintain home regions. It is possible this is because it is in fact a group of multiple creatures, which would still make it unusual as kaiju are otherwise wholly unique creatures who seem to disobey the laws of common descent.

Description

The Stormsaugur, not requiring the bulk or bodily weaponry of typical kaiju, is smaller on average, with a flat, ray-like body, massive winged fins, and two devil-like horns on the crest of what ought to be its head (hence the moniker "Devilray").

In Waking Culture

Drawn likenesses of the Stormsaugur, with its mighty splayed fins and devil-like horns, are used in many Waking cultures to represent impending inclement weather or bad omens in general. It is commonplace in coastal regions of the Broken Empire and Valamon for local governments (or churches aligned to the good-aligned Stormlords) to staple symbols of the Squallsire to the front of major buildings to warn the local populace of impending storms that will be particularly disastrous.
