Prophet of the SunLord

"When the sun is at its highest, when there are no shadows for blasphemy, deceit, and disloyalty to hide, we offer up the heretic, the traitor, the murderer for judgement. We cast them in cleansing fire, so that their soul may shed the sins of this flesh and be born anew, as Phrixus wills, to redeem themselves in the next life."
- Prophet Rathanse Theirand

Requirements

Rising up the ranks of the Church can be an ordeal. A trial, even. Most appointments and advancement comes with recognition from those above. Acolytes are mentored and vouched for by Priests, Priests are brought into the fold by High Priests, but Prophets are an entirely different matter.

There are very few Prophets of Phrixus and they are divinely appointed. When a High Priest believes it is their time, it is after they have accomplished some grand deed. Taking over a portion of Yandelar, leading a successful campaign into Sceass, pushing back an invading force. Monumental moments of accomplishment that they had a direct hand in influencing. I.E. High Priests are not back-line generals, but armor-clad, crimson leaders in battle.

Once this grand deed has been accomplished in Phrixus name, at high noon, a High Priest will usually offer up captured enemies or heretics as a sacrifice then asked to be judged as worthy. In doing so, they willingly set themselves on fire. This usually involves stepping into an already roaring bonfire cultivated by fellow High Priests.

Phrixus pays attention only to those he deems great heroes. If they have his attention, if he finds them worthy, they will walk out of the fire unscathed and named Prophet. If he has found them lacking, the cleansing fire consumes them.

Duties

Prophets are the guiding force of the Church of Phrixus. There aren't ever very many at one time - given the requirement of some major deed - and they generally don't operate in the same place. When it comes to matter of religious authority or decisions, there is no one higher. It is almost as though Phrixus himself is speaking through them. So much so that even the collective rulers of the country and the Crimson Court are hesitant to go against a ruling they might issue.

Prophets generally hold eachother accountable. Given the religous ferver that is instilled in these very select individuals, corruption is the least of the worries. Most of the time, it is trying to reign in their eagerness to expand the Dameskan domain in Phrixus name.
