Courtesan Cweneadca Character in Vyril | World Anvil

Courtesan Cweneadca

Courtesan Cwen

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Slender, with pale, seemingly unblemished skin. She keeps her shape with corsets and accents it all in fine, tailored clothes. Beneath it all, there are a few, faint scars from when she was a child but they are well hidden and, if necessary, covered with powders to cover not just the scars, but any hint that she might've had anything less than a noble life.

Personal history

Cwen was born into nothing and, were it not for a twist of fate, would've remained nothing. Orphaned and left on the lower streets of Eleaseth's largest port city, she was passed off to one of the group homes in the area where she spent her earliest, formative years. Hungry, scrappy, and frequently lent out for errands at the docks, Cwen learned to be quick or be caught. And it was never a good thing when a kid at the docks was caught. Payment would be stolen and punishment dealt in the form of beatings.   The group home wasn't exactly cruel. No more so than the docks itself or the people there. It was a rough life.   The Courtesan Letheodsura sent a scout to find a handful of promising young ones that she might be able to train. Letheodsura had always said those that came from nothing would try harder than those born into nobility and means.   Three kids were taken from the docks. Cwen was amongst them. Two girls and one boy. The other girl eventually ended up dropping from the lessons when letheodsura became impatient with her but Cwen and the boy, Rahm, became something of friends even as they competed in lessons.   Their debute at fifteen was an elaborate affair, where private bids for their time was passed around the party they were essentially shown off. Both secured enough to further their stay and ensure additional training under Letheodsura until the Courtesan met an untimely end about a decade later.   This left Cwen and Rahm to scramble. To either find a place amongst the court or be cast out to the streets. Letheodsura's will had left everything to distant family. Cwen ran to the noble who'd seemed to favor her and she lost track of Rahm. It would be several more years of playing mistress to the noble before she would be taken under by another Courtesan.   Resolving she would not be left stranded should something happen again, Cwen took steps to ensure her safety. Pulling away from the noble who'd cared for her and finding ways to establish a place for herself. Stashing funds away, cultivating her own alliances and loyalties.   At twenty, she's approached by a rival courtesan and offered an opportunity. For her to claim the property of her current Matron if she helps bring her down.   It's a messy affair. While Cwen agrees, she finds that the deal she made intends to make her the fall out. Scrambling, the aftermath leaves two courtesan dead and Cwen the inheritor of both estates.   After this, she receives a letter from The Iron Shadow. It's a recruitment letter.

Morality & Philosophy

Cweneadca was born into a hard life and has worked to secure her place in the Iron Shadows. As such, she is very much a me first sort of person. Her life and loyalty will always be to her own interests first and foremost, to the rest of Eleaseth and its wellbeing second. Of course she wants the nation to prosper, since she can only do so well if the country does and she certainly doesn't want the Dameskan's to take over, but she has no problem sacrificing anyone for the greater good or her own personal gain.
