Ballarand

Ballarand are of medium build and height, although they are typically a little broader than the average Uthman . Their skin tends to have an olive hue, although on average they are increasingly paler in complexion the further north one travels. Ballarand hair and eye colours vary wildly, with brown hair and blue eyes being most common.   Where the Uthman draw much of their hereditary lineage from the peoples of the Mardin Empire, it is a commonly held belief by scholars that the Ballarand are descendants of Ramuh who fled south before the Rains of Destruction. While the nation of Ballardan remains their ancestral homeland, many Ballarand have traveled far and wide, leaving their homeland's tumultuous history behind them in the hopes for better lives elsewhere.

Major language groups and dialects

  • High Ralcadiz: The more formal dialect of Ralcadiz spoken by the Ballardinian nobility and the princes of the Enclave. Works of literature, legal documents, and religious texts are exclusively written in High Ralcadiz in Ballardan.
  • Low Ralcadiz: The more informal dialect of Ralcadiz spoken largely by the peasantry of Ballardan and the Enclave.
  • Khavican Ralcadiz: A dialect of Ralcadiz with elements of Marduz spoken primarily in Khavica.

Culture and cultural heritage

Ballarand have a deep-seated love for bards and their craft.

Shared customary codes and values

Ballarand place a high value on personal freedom and often view those in power with a deal of suspicion. Noble-minded rebels are immortalized in song and folklore, so much that even some common brigands with Ballarand heritage may refer to themselves as "freedom fighters."

Common Dress code

Ballarand dress normally consists of a short, belted tunic and close-fitting trousers (although those in Khavica may prefer the baggy-style trousers commonplace in Uthmar.)
