Entangled Letters

One of the most popular forms of communication on the world of Vreathe involves a method for instant communication. Entangled Letters allows two people to instantly communicate and write letters to each other, no delivery service required, just a never ending supply of Mana is required to maintain the magic.

Each letter can be made of any type of paper, though specially treated vellum is the preferred material. On each letter is a unique but shared Entangled Enchantment which forever ties the two pieces of paper together. Anything written on one will appear on the other and if one is destroyed, both are destroyed.

Now, obviously communicating requires a special form of ink so it is reusable, otherwise the paper would fill up and be useless after just a couple of uses. For this a special type of carbon ink is used, itself a type of Aethercite, magically charged and tuned so it will disappear with a small application of mana. It can be made to reappear with the same application of mana, provided it hasn't yet been written on again.

This form of communication can be rather expensive due to the complex enchantments required to make it, but most people have at least one set they keep between themselves and a family member or spouse.

Richer people have dozens upon dozens, sometimes hundreds of individual entangled letters. They hire specialized letter keepers who inform them when a new letter is written and keep track of incoming and outgoing communications. Since this profession requires a certain amount of trust, letter keepers often have their senses magically dulled when working. having the last several hours of their memories erased after work.

An example of an Entangled Enchantment. Meticulous calculations are written and magically charged on the paper. The carbon ink itself is a form of Aethercite. Each letter is assigned a unique magical ID through the use of Mana Arcs. The large number on the top-right and top-left is necessary for all entangled enchantments to work. These numbers are said to represent Reality's Unique Coordinates Among All Realities though few on Vreathe know what that actually means.
