SM17 - The Upside Down

General Summary

The Party considered trading the Crown of Andafirin for the Black Book, but were suddenly thrust into the Shadowfell by Evylai.

Returned to the Library

Amadirion, the Spellbinder's Guild librarian who Hermes brought back to life, told the party as much as he could remember about what happened to him. He said that Fake Az only came to his library twice: once to drop the book off for safekeeping and again the day he was killed. Amadirion remembered being killed in the library rather than inside the city wall where his body was found.

Twinning

Having found the Black Book's approximate location, the party is able to narrow its place down to a pub called the Bubbling Brew in the wealthy Parkside district. Now famous and affluent, the party no longer has any trouble entering that area of the city. When they enter the pub, the party is immediately approached by its owner, a Half-Elf named Kasha Ambale. After taking the time to flirt with everyone in the party with varying degrees of success, Kasha brought the party to a private room. There, she revealed her own sympathy with the Tacaran Independence Movement and her desire to trade the Black Book for the Crown of Andafirin. During this conversation, the party was served food and drink by Kaska and Varjo, Halfling twins that Kasha couldn't seem to tell apart. Both of these twins turned out to be other people in disguise. Pemma Harrody revealed herself first, but failed to warn the party in time that something was going on downstairs. The other twin was Evylai, who revealed himself at the entire pub was plunged into the Shadowfell.

Owb, Shit!

While Kasha panicked upstairs, the party followed Evylai to the lower level. While the pub's patrons tried to flee or take cover, five owbs emerged from the pub's kitchen, each emanating a sphere of darkness. The party overcame this difficulty, but just as the fight seemed to be going their way, Evylai opened the door to the outside, where dozens of zombies waited to clamber in.
