SM16 - Dustin' Makes Me Feel Good

General Summary

The Phoenix Four visited Glirroth, met the high king, and searched for the black book.

OG's

After a brief visit to Sweaty to buy some minor magic items, the party attempted to enter the palace. This required a lengthy negotiation with various guards and court officials, but the party gained access to the royal palace and were allowed to visit Glirroth. He didn't seem to have his memories about the escape from Holannun altered, and explained how rising tensions and a decreased food supply in the city led him to flee with his son Gil while Alagalph stayed to help fight. Acquilan and the party helped fight off a group of Dark Elves, which allowed them to leave the teleportation-suppressing field around Holannun and escape. Glirroth also confirmed Melmacil Juthar's promise that he and Gil have been well cared for despite being in the palace against their will.

Classy, Bougie, Elvish

When the court official allowed the party into the palace, he also passed along an invitation to dine with the high king. Those who had them changed into their nicest clothes and enjoyed a delicious—though awkward—meal with some Celonari nobles. High King Lalfelwen Uiretarion only mentioned the Phoenix Four once during the meal when she toasted them for their heroics and "service to the kingdom." However, a few members of the party engaged the friendliest dinner guest in conversation. Xenara, Duchess of Larmas, was a Satyr originally from Athrada. She shared her thoughts about the upcoming peace negotiations, which the party learned will be mediated by Parthil. Like everyone else who has approached the party, she thinks the question of who caused the Phoenix Incident will be key to determining the outcome. She also showed knowledge of the Frogfolk desire for independence.

A Murder Most Bookish

After returning to Celonar and spending a night in their own houses for the first time in weeks, the party began looking for the black book that kept showing up in their flashbacks. Tana's most recent revelation led them to the guildhall of the Spellbinder's Guild, which was undergoing renevations. While Az and Acquilana waited outside, the guards allowed the party in due to their good reputation. They quickly noticed the suspicious pile of dust in front of a bare section of the old wall, but it took them some time to realize it was a secret door. The secret door led to another passageway in the old wall, where they found the dead body of Amadirian, the librarian Tana and Az visited in the flashback. Realizing the book may also be close by, Tikvah cast Locate Object and learned that the book is on the other side of the wall.

Hermes, Totally Normal Mortal

Wanting to get information out of the librarian without having to deal with any red tape, the party stuffed his body into their Bag of Holding and headed to the Hierophic Temple to find priests and materials to help resurrect him. When they opened the bag, they found that Hermes had turned the librarian's corpse into a puppet. He thanked the party for the toothpick (the cursed javelin they caught in there during the Loxian Games) and said he wished the party would visit more. Hermes agrees to revive Amadirian after the party solves a riddle, then leaves.
