Frogfolk

I'm still working on the mechanics of the Frogfolk race.

Summary

Frogfolk, a playable race in this setting, are an amphibious people from the island of Meotyi. The more aggressive members of their species have slowly pushed the island's original Tabaxi inhabitants out while taking their Cempohualli religion and other cultural practices as their own.

Subraces

The three subraces of Frogfolk are the Grippli, Bullywugs, and Mogogols. Grippli are frog-like and typically good-aligned. They live in tropical forests, building villages in the canopy and climbing and jumping between trees to escape the few predators willing to eat their naturally poisonous bodies. Bullywugs are toad-like swamp dwellers who tend to have an evil alignment. Toughened by years of cutthroat wars and infighting, Bullywugs are a force to be reckoned with. Mogogols are also predominantly evil, though they also have a strong tendency towards law. Their Salamander ancestry gives them a natural affinity for heat.

Appearance

A typical frogfolk is about 3 feet tall and weighs between 40 and 50 pounds. Their heads and bodies appear similar to those of nonintelligent amphibians, but they can walk on two legs if they choose. Their skin color varies dramatically depending on their environment and subrace. Grungs and some Grippli have vibrant skin, but most other frogfolk have colorations that help them blend into their surroundings. Frogfolk rarely wear clothing, although they often decorate themselves with jewelry and trinkets that members of most other races consider gaudy. Frogfolk are gender-fluid and sex-fluid and take death much less seriously than other races. Because of these unique aspects of their society, they vary between curiosity and hostility toward what they view as strange customs practiced by other races.

Culture

The only unifying trend between the three Frogfolk kin groups is their distrust of other races and each other. For Grippli, this merely means a desire to remain hidden from others, while the Mogogols and Bullywugs are more likely to lash out at others. According to the Bullywug interpretation of Cempohualli, other races are a punishment sent by the gods and should be treated accordingly. Frogfolk don't always speak Common naturally; instead, they speak Aquan as their main language. Frogfolk who live in speak Nenepilli, the language of Cemphualli worship.

Relations with Others

Frogfolk don't tend to take a moderate position on other races, either seeking to avoid them entirely or destroy them unless they prove useful. As a result, there are few who have any sympathy for Frogfolk. Tortles are the only race that with whom most Frogfolk willingly interact. However, a Frogfolk adventurer likely would have left their home to escape this oppressive atmosphere, so these prejudices are not shared by all Frogfolk.
