Kypo's / Lesser Tokyps

Lesser Tokyps aren't counted as sentient, but are still quite intelligent. They are similar to Higher Tokyps but have larger wings, because they rely more on them. They also can only Birel (move objects via telekinesis) on 2 vectors (move 2 objects at the same time.   They look like wyverns, 2 legs, powerful wings, horns. The only difference is they have fur instead of scales. Their fur is usually grey coloured, but there are a variety of colours and patterns that have been introduced after centuries of breeding. They range from slightly bigger a horse to 3 times that. Their wings end in small claws, used for extra balance on the ground and clinging to things.   Lesser Tokyps are just called Kypo's.   Kypo's can be tamed, usually by daring Leromirs. I say "tamed" but it's more like befriended. There's nothing stopping a Kypo from simply flying off or killing it's rider, so the bond between them must be strong. Even tame Kypo's which have been bred to be loyal are still known to do this. They are a predator species after all.   Kypo's have been used for quick transport for a long time, even before airships. Before the global uprising only the Leromir ruling class were allowed to ride them, so there weren't very many. Post uprising Loksi's (Normal folk) began using them for a wide variety of things. They were the quickest form of transport at the time, faster than an airship or horse.   Tall towers were built in cities, with perches, and many openings. These were like hubs or stables for arriving and departing Kypo's, with Food, water, and bedding to rest them.   The leromir overlords didn't build many roads, instead they just used Kypo's. It is easier to control a people who can't travel to other cities or towns with ease. After the uprising more roads were built, Kypo's were still expensive to raise, train, and feed.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Kypos have 2 wings and 2 legs.   Relatively strong bones, not cartilage apart from the wings.   They also have (2) horns, which vary in shape in different breeds. Their heads have a sort of boney armour to protect it. The rest of it's body (apart from the wings) is covered in fur which varies in colour and length.

Genetics and Reproduction

Kypos reproduce by laying eggs.

Growth Rate & Stages

Kypos are born without fur, and only very small horns. A week after birth they gain soft, fluffy fur to keep them warm. As they grow older through adolescence their horns will grow greatly in size, and their fur molts, they regrow adult fur during this time. During adolescence Kypos are capable of flight, but must learn how from their parents. Once they reach maturity they leave the nest, in search of a spot to make their own, usually a mile away from any other Kypo.   The times for these stages are: Newly hatched: 3 weeks Young: a year or more Adolescence: 3 years or more. Maturity: Depending on breed a healthy Kypo can live for 80-120 years.

Ecology and Habitats

Mountains/Forests. They live in mountains during the Summer and will migrate downwards to forests for the winter. Less safe but much warmer.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Kypo's need a high lerite diet, and prefers live food. If no lera creatures are available they will go up into the mountains to gnaw on Lerite deposits. Otherwise they are mainly meat eaters, but do eat the leaves of some trees.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Kypo's are territorial if food is scarce. Tame Kypo's are more aggressive to others during the winter months, when food is usually scarce.   If a Kypo is well fed it will want to seek out the company of other Kypo's, they are a social creatures, and will communicate with each other. During the summer there are great breeding ceremonies where a large amount of them will migrate to one spot in order to breed and socialise.   Kypo's have been known to work together to bring down large prey.   Kypo's mate for life.

Domestication

It was not easy to domesticate the first Kypo, they were terrifying creatures that could rip the weapon from your hand without being within striking distance. In fact the first tame Kypo was risen from an egg.   Later on in history, Kypo's tamed in this way were used to tame fully grown ones, eventually they were bred to become the Domestic Kypo's that can be seen today.   Domestic Kypo's are more loyal and intelligent than wild ones, less prone to attacking others or killing smaller animals to eat.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Kypo's are used as a form of transport, and also for war.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Kypos are found world wide, but usually in warmer locations nearer the equator.

Average Intelligence

Non-sentient, but they are as intelligent as a crow or dolphin.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Kypo's are Lera creatures, capable of sensing anything around them at a range of 10 metres. They have 2 bird like eyes excellent for spotting prey.
