Dalland

[DAL-and]   Dalland is an enormous valley nations formed when the Arr Mountains collapsed at the end of The Fourth Age. It is lush and green with several small lakes. It was founded by the Grove of Dør and it unified all druids in the world, including nomadic druids and the only other surviving grove of the time (Brystvorte) into one faith. However, over time the Marite faction sprang up causing some dissention. In The Fifth Age, Dalland is populated mostly by Hyggoth and Nomad druids and rangers, although anyone who keeps the laws of Dalland can live here. Notably, all Vaettir (Blue Elves) in the world live in Dalland. Additionally, almost all dwarves in the world live in a peculiar sovereign city portioned out from what was once an area surrounding Aria's Folly (over the Fane of Renere), called the Independent Republic of the New Dwarven City. Dalland is ruled as a theocratic commune under the direction of The Great Grove. The entire border between Dalland and Mørkland is lined with an Arrstone wall, bolstered periodically with forts staffed by Druids, Rangers, and Oath of the Ancients Paladins appointed by The Great Grove. Anyone attempting to cross over the wall is killed without question.

Laws

Dalland holds to the Four Accords. In addition, all humanoid corpses are burned and any livestock are butchered immediately, punishable by a period of community service or indentured servitude. If a failure to burn results in anyone's death by undead, the ones responsible may be tried for violating the First Accord. The creation of basements, cellars, bunkers, or any digging beyond 4 feet is punishable in a similar manner.

Cutting or harming a birch tree is considered a violation of the First Accord in Dalland (unless done by a druid for sacred harvesting).

Any form of arcane teleportation is illegal in Dalland, punishable by death. Scrolls, potions, or wands of Tree Stride, Dimension Door, Teleportation Circle, or Teleport are illegal punishable by death. However, a network of strategically placed oaks across Dalland makes up what is known as the Great Oak Network, and can be traversed using the Tree Stride spell. The intention of this confluence of laws is that only Druids and Rangers can magically travel into Dalland, and anyone violating the law is assumed to be a Mørkland invader.

Economy

In Dalland, formal trade is illegal and all land is "conserved" by the Great Grove. Those claiming land ownership or accepting currency for goods and services are exiled (typically without warning). Oath of the Ancients Paladins are employed to investigate such matters with Zone of Truth. Goods and services can be bartered for without punishment, but unfair dealings may be reported to the Great Grove and if they dispatch Paladins to deal with the matter, those found to have acted unfairly are immediately exiled. Dalland does not engage in trade with other nations.
