The Cataclysm itself is a poorly understood event, largely due to the deliberate erasure of its details by those who survived it. However, certain elements are widely accepted:
Warring Factions: 
The Cataclysm was precipitated by a conflict between two powerful groups of magic users. Their struggle, which possibly began as a disagreement over the ethics or control of magic, escalated into a devastating war.
Mass Destruction: 
The scale of the Cataclysm was immense, resulting in widespread destruction. Entire regions were obliterated, and the natural order was thrown into chaos.
Erasure of Knowledge:  In the aftermath, both factions agreed to a radical solution to prevent such a catastrophe from ever happening again. Using their combined magical abilities, they erased the knowledge of the events, spells, and even the existence of the conflict from the minds of all sentient beings. This act of collective amnesia extended to the methods used to achieve it, compounding the mystery.
Legacy and Ruins
Manuscripts and Tomes: Few manuscripts from this period have survived, and those that have are guarded zealously by powerful magic users. These texts are rumored to contain ancient and dangerous magics, as well as accounts of the events leading up to the Cataclysm.
Ruins: The ruins of Pre-Cataclysm civilizations are sparse and have long been stripped of their valuable artifacts. However, these ruins still hold architectural marvels and hints of the advanced magitech that once thrived.
