Trying to adjust to the remote building that was his new home was still taking time. Riseenu wasn’t alone, exactly, but there was a clear separation between him and the two that worked the place. While they were trusted advisors and attendants to Dynaechoor, enough so that he’d been left alone with him, that didn’t mean Riseenu knew anything about them. There wasn’t a sense of unease so much of a feeling of being displaced.   He wasn’t waking up in his family’s small home, at the crack of dawn, to work in the water fields. He didn’t get to see all the familiar faces of those he worked and ate along side day in and day out. Gone were the sounds of a village in motion, replaced instead by an untamed bamboo jungle around their solitary hide-away.   A new routine replaced the old. He still woke up early but it was to a small hot meal prepared by Anora. He’d offered to help but he’d been told in no uncertain terms that he had other things to do beyond cook or clean. Quite true, too. There was an entire study dedicated to books he had to read and writings he needed to know. Things that were important to his new life.   He was learning to accept having others do so much for him but it still didn’t sit well.   It was while he was in the study late in the afternoon that Nysoin slid open the slender door. He was a Oushnou – always dressed in black and a blade close at hand. Riseenu had asked early on if they were in any danger but Nysoin had simply said it was his sword, as if that was any answer. Now, the vnou and the blade were just a common sight. It’d have been odd to see him without it.   Nysoin crouched near his desk and set a folded piece of parchment on the corner. “For you. Got in when I was picking up supplies.” He didn’t wait for a response. By the time Riseenu had leaned forward to pick up the letter, Nysoin was gone and the door shut for privacy.   Though he’d been taught reading and writing in his home village, it had been rudimentary and rough. Something that he’d had to refine on his own now. He couldn’t imagine anyone sending him a letter from the village, so… He unfolded the letter to a slender but beautiful script. A letter addressed to him from Dynaechoor.
My Dear Riseenu,

I hope this letter finds you well. I suspect it is also a surprise but I wanted to extend some gesture as way of apology. A letter is a poor substitute for my presence but the world and work calls me away. You may not understand now but I think you will the more you read about our family and the new world that you are apart of.

Make no mistake, Riseenu. You are a part of it. My Bya. Nothing and no one can change that. I hope that will bring you more comfort than frustration in the coming years.

Distance makes regular conversation difficult but I will do my best to adjust so my letters are not the only way you will have contact with me.
Yours, Dynae
It was short and it had taken him a little longer than he’d liked to read it, but once he had, Riseenu went through it again. And again. His first letter ever from his new Dha.

Context

This is a letter sent during Riseenu's stay at a location tucked away by Dynaechoor. As first born of Stazrach, Dynaechoor had candidates selected for him to Connect with. While Connections cannot be forced, they are generally encouraged amongst a pool of eligable vnou. Dynaechoor went out on his own to find someone that suited him beyond his family's reach, more detailed in the short story: Finding You.   It's especially notable because handwritten letters are a rarity. Riseenu doesn't exactly know that during this because he's new to the world of nobility, but things in ink have far more weight and importance to them than anything that is typed or sent via any electronic method. The odds that Dyneachoor has penned a letter to anyone else in his life, short of something official, is incredibly rare. That he did so for something as simple as a personal letter to his Bya says a lot.

And no one will ever know. Cause he'd erase that shit so fast...
