Overview

One of the most popular and widely used methods of traveling large distances, trains are a staple because there is so much land in the interior of the continents that would be otherwise inaccessible or prohibitablely expensive to travel to. There are very few main major highways that connect the cities because the trains have become so prominent and popular, enabling vnou to travel large distances in relative comfort. While there are certainly degrees of comfort and luxury that can be purchased, the long distance trains are generally spacious enough that it would be preferable to any ship or the very few airplanes. Besides being more reliable and readily available, the trains have been something present in vnou culture for centuries.

Owners, Operators, Manufacturers

Trains, stations, and the railways are one of the few enterprises in vnou that are primarily owned by common vnou. While they would be considered upper-class, or even wealthy, by their peer standards, the trains and railways are modes of transport that the nobility haven't seen fit to overly bother with. While most families will have their own passenger car with its own luxury and security detail, it's still attached to a common vnou owned railway and pulled by an engine that a common vnou company will maintain and operate. Since the trains are used primarily by common vnou, for both long distances and for public transport in the major cities, it's been something that was turned over to common vnou management like many other larger public works like waste management, city-wide plumbing, basic infrastructure management, and water.   Powered by coal, even this particular mining industry is owned and operated by common vnou. The railways and associated industries are seen as some of the upper- middle-class vnou management industries. While it is incorrect, common vnou believe those that own and operate railways and coal mines are a couple steps removed from nobility. While these vnou tend to be more wealthy than their peers, they are still largely ignorant to the entire world the nobility operate in.

Pricing

The large appeal of the trains and railways is the cheap price available for the basic amenities for travel for such long distances. For the most basic seat across the continent is affordable for nearly every vnou, which really opened up the world and enabled a lot of movement between the countries, kingdoms, and cities. It allowed the vnou to be a little more transient in where they decided to live, forcing the ruling class to tend to their cities to make them more appealing so citizens would stay. While this might seem like an expensive downside for the nobility, they actually prefer the complacency of the populace so the development and maintenance of the trains has generally been seen as a good thing.

Crew, Cargo, and Capacity

Another benefit to the more modern trains and engines is their enormous cargo and passenger capacity. Able to transport hundreds of people and tons of goods with a very small crew make the trains an efficient mode of trade and trasport across the longer stretches where there just isn’t anything, where smaller vehicles would require frequent refueling and there isn’t available stations for such a thing. Simply put, vnou infrastructure has been built and evolved to accommodate trains, not smaller vehicles.
