Modern Communication

Inventor

Zhu'Drahinuaw

Availability

Zhu'Drahinuaw, with the monetary and material support of Zhu'Shpazh, have been able to provide internet service to some of the most remote places. There was a selfish motivation behind it, for Drahinuaw. Giving every vnou access to the internet meant they had access to every vnou. Shpazh recognized this as well and though they don’t benefit nearly as much, it has enabled them to communicate more effectively across their vast network. Most of the nobility have similar sentiments though they are all aware that Drahinuaw has superiority when it concerns coding and navigating cyberspace.

Drahinuaw’s monopoly on technology has naturally waned because of how available and cheap hardware is. This enables even common vnou to access and tinker with networks and code – though most have to be self taught since the information isn’t as readily available. Nobility have likewise trained their own vnou to be tech savvy so they don’t rely exclusively on Drahinuaw to operate and manage their internal networks. There is an inherit distrust in electronic information because it was developed by a family renown for their secrecy and trade in information. That hasn’t stopped any from using it because it is simply too convenient, but it isn’t so much so that it’s changed the vnou’s reliance on paper or the importance they put in proper filings.

Social Impact

Common Vnou

The greatest impact has been on the common vnou’s way of life. It has blown up communication across the world for them – businesses deal in email, families are able to keep in touch with one another, and it’s seen as a relatively secure form of communication. Entire industries have been created around the advent of email – programmers, coders, software engineers. These vnou are either self taught or auxiliary students of Drahinuaw who are taught just enough to provide service to the common sector

Noble Vnou

The nobility all assume that anything they send electronically can be read by a third party – and they’re not wrong. There isn’t a system that Drahinuaw has met that one of their own can’t crack or a network they can’t infiltrate save internal LANs. And even those can be socially engineered and cracked, if absolutely necessary. Thus, much of the information that the noble vnou send between one another is generally superfluous and teach their children that it should never be something they’re not willing to say out loud in front of their parents.

Hypocritical Use

While the nobility refuse to use any sort of electronic communication for anything official, common vnou have largely been encouraged to do so – and it’s been used against them in the courts. This push into the digital age wasn’t exactly spurned by the nobility but the common vnou themselves. The convenience of it outweighed the perceived complications. The demand made it easier for Drahinuaw to provide the supply and thus gain access to the common vnou in the way they had wanted from the start. Entire enterprises and pillars of society are built around the technologies now. While Drahinuaw doesn’t really have any interest in the daily communications between the common vnou, they still have access should they ever want to look up the logs of any vnou in particular. Or at least, any vnou that has ever sent a digital message. They don’t even need to maintain their own servers to do so – common vnou businesses do so for them. It’s just a matter of accessing those databases, which is incredibly easy since Drahinuaw are the ones who created them to begin with.

Everything is stacked against the common vnou.

What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark?
