Ministry of the Mind

The Ministry of the Mind is a research and treatment facility specializing in mental illnesses. These illnesses range from Soldier's Heart to Spellbreaker Syndrome, both of which have seen increased cases as a result of the war with the Virtuous League. The ministry acquires patients either voluntarily by the individual, or by the individuals family/caretaker. Soldiers of Chey are also must receive a mandatory evaluation upon return from battle.   Treatments make use of new magical advancements as well as physical surgeries if necessary. Each patient is diagnosed and a tailored treatment plan is created for them. Non-essential treatments are also offered for those willing to spend the coin. These services include: memory altering, memory removal, and dream weaving. Being a government entity, their mind reading services are also used in the legal system as well as espionage efforts.

History

Established by Dr. Rezek upon approval from the Council of Chey. The Ministry of the Mind was promised to be a government entity devoted to studying and treating mental illnesses. The Ministry was left with little oversight from the council, leaving Dr. Rezek to run the research facility as he saw fit. Very little success came from the studies until the year 1897, the year magic started to return. Coincidentally, this was also around the time that the Ministry implemented a law that allowed them to take those they deemed mentally unwell to the treatment center against their will. Some of these patients would eventually be returned. A portion of them would genuinely have been treated and cured of their ailments while others would be either in a worse state or never return at all.    Though some of the citizens had an idea of what was happening and feared being taken, many believed it was for the betterment of their city. It was not until the next year in 1898, when the ministry was attacked by a supposed Revenant and a ministry man. Eleven people were left dead, Dr. Rezek and the attackers among them. It was then reveled that many of those who did not come back from treatment were being kept in secret cells below the doctor's office to be experimented on.    Following these events, the Council reformed the ministry with an oversight committee to ensure the safety of its patients.
