Psychopomp
The Heavens are ruled by the Elder of Life, Hell is under the command of the Elder of Death. But what about Purgatory? Who rules the space between a soul's final destination? Through charred research and forbidden texts of the once great Realm Rangers organisation, it is speculated there is a deity of this land, Psychopomp.
A near omnipotent creature that is the physical manifestation of Purgatory, it is this god who give the final verdict on where souls are placed. Dictating which souls will be collected and when from its grey palace at the centre of the realm. In ancient times, Psychopomp would descend down to the mortal planes and gather the souls itself. But as the universe expanded, its time was spread thin. Thus, it summoned an army of impartial creatures (wraith) to aid the god on its cosmic purpose. Along its many journeys down to the mortal planes, it has been spotted and recorded in history books. The humans would call him Charon the Ferryman. In the realm of birds it was given the title of Valkyrie. And amongst fairy kind, Awarn.
Yes, well. Where I'm from, there's Arawn. Don't want to meet him behind in a root tunnel. Mind you I don't suppose you get a choice. Hmm, now this Arawn guides your soul precisely where you need to be once you know, die. Or so its assumed, obviously I'm not dead so I'm not 100% sure. And neither are my friends, who also happen to be alive. Anywho, I was talking to a very nice lady the other day. And she gave me this amazing thing called butter, didn't think it was food initially. But like I saying, the lady told me of these beings called humans and how they have a deity who does the same thing. But their one has a boat. Floating in a river of blood. My first thought was, that's a lot of blood. But then I thought, or I eventually thought, what if they're the same god? Absurd surely! But what's more believable, there is several all powerful beings scooping up souls of the deceased and plopping them in the afterlife, which would be a very crowded table at dinnertime if you ask me. Or! Or, its all just the same god that's shaping itself appeal to the dead its collecting.The duties of the deity is simple. To act as an impartial judge and place a soul where it deserves based on its actions in the mortal planes. Then to guide said souls to the gates of Heaven, Hell and all other variants of afterlife. Making regular visits to Laror and Daroo, the gatekeepers of passing souls. It's vision expands across the majority of the universe but is blind to few individuals. In particular, the entities of Purgatory which disturb the cosmic balance and repeatedly interfere with the god's purpose. Throughout time, Psychopomp has made attempts to find the entities. Using its own resources as well as the Elders horseman and sons of light. But every attempt has been fruitless. Rumours whisper in the wind that the god has created a weapon capable of killing the entities if it ever hunts them down.
