The afterlife goes by various names across the realms, but something that is believed by nearly every civilization. With countless iterations of heavens and underworlds. But before entering these final destinations, a soul must enter Purgatory. A dull and vast realm, which sees souls appearing at a constant rate. At first, these souls are lost. But eventually, they are found by creatures of Purgatory known as Wraith. These flying veiled creatures have no emotion. No judgement on the souls they find. Instead they simply follow their purpose in the life after life. To guide the lost souls and lead them to wherever they need to be based on their actions in the mortal world.

The mere existence of life indicates to us that there must also be an afterlife. We know this to be true with the aid of ghosts, ghouls and dark necrotic forces. But we are not overwhelmed by such things, in fact it is a rarity in our mortal plane. So I ask you the question, where does one's soul go after leaving our world?

Purgatory, according to the remaining research of the Realm Rangers, is said to be part of the realm of souls. A living land that manifests beings when required, most commonly in the form of wraith. By this logic, the realm is also capable of manifesting other creatures to tackle problems and issues Purgatory faces. These other creatures are named, the entities. After centuries of research, the Realm Rangers estimate there is a total of four entities that exist. Each with a separate purpose and personality, making them unique in the sea of wraith.

The Dealer

The purpose of the Dealer is to 'deal' with the overload of souls entering Purgatory. Usually skulking in the corners of Purgatory in the hopes of finding lost souls who it can persuade to sign contracts and make bargains with in its courtyard of signatures. Dressing in a dark coloured suit but covering its face with hood. The Dealer uses the souls it collects to then do its bidding in the mortal plane.

The Rogue

Originally described as a wraith just like any other. But after entering the mortal plane of humans by mistake, it gained something no other wraith possesses, emotions. It began to feel and think freely. Questioning why it did what it did and what it's real purpose should be. With these new emotions, the wraith took it upon itself to follow a new purpose. To take justice into its own hands and reap the souls of those who were not worthy of a mortal life. It is said, the Rogue has grown a passion for human music and even stole a pet to keep it company. A singular Xiezhi that follows the Rogue across the realms.

The Soul Eater

This entity manifests itself after a long and bloody mortal battle. When the number of souls begins to overload Purgatory. Its purpose is to cleanse the lands of souls by devouring them. Feeding without judgement and hiding away in its interdimensional nest when resting. A shapeshifting and feral entity that has been known to enter the mortal planes when it cannot find enough to consume.

The Wanderer

Appearing out of nowhere to the lost souls who are so lost, not even the wraiths of Purgatory can find them. The entity known as the Wanderer travels alone across the realms, stumbling upon souls that no one else can reach. Manifesting on the horizon, sat on a dark horizon by a campfire. Sitting and waiting for the souls to come to it like a beacon in the sky. It is believed it will give a form of comfort to the soul and send them on a course to reach their final, intended destination.
