The Atlas Asylum and Penitentiary

Purpose / Function

The Atlas was originally a passenger airship to the island, however it was repurposed as a Prison ship once the original council realized that they had neglected to build a prison in the City. To save space on the actual landmass of the city, and to save the cost of shipping convicts to the surface Empire, the Governor of the time commandeered the latest ship to arrive to the city, a large passenger ship christened The Atlas.

Alterations

The ship has been firmly anchored to the ground of Upper Essend. It also has a diverted supply from the water line and Erythrine pipes to keep it running. There is a small, guarded bridge to access the ship. The ship would not fly without repairs, and without removing the pipes and anchors connecting it to the city.

Architecture

The “building” is not actually a building at all, but a large airship with ten decks, and two large glass atria each spanning three decks. It is made from iron, glass, and has some Erythrine light fixtures.

History

The Atlas was once a grand passenger ship, the last of its kind to travel to Victoriam. The governor of Victoriam realized that a prison was never constructed in the city, and comandeered the ship as a prison and asylum. The ship was attached to Upper Essed district with the remains of the Sussess Pipes, and anchored to the Upper Essend Engine. The atria were used for the asylum portion, while the solid decks were used for the prison. It has long been a dumping ground for anyone that the government doesn’t agree with, and most people that enter the Atlas never leave it.
