The two met as children, and Jothan helped Nicolas while he was living on the streets of London. Jothan got Nicolas a job, a home, and a place in ICSIT. They remained close friends and lived as neighbors on Victoriam.

Nicolas and America met at ICSIT, and at first, Nicolas had an unrequited crush on America, but this was likely more due to the lack of women in the College than any actual feelings. They became good friends despite initial awkwardness, and worked together after their graduation. they grew apart from each other on VIctoriam as Nicolas became more absorbed in his work and in his relationship with Jothan
