Employment
Samuel started in the Calian army and fought in the war between Troth and Calios.
*(Maybe have him work in intelligence or have a reputation for strategies to explain why he was put in charge of the Wraiths)
He currently serves as captain of the Wraiths and acts as the main strategist of the team.

Sam rose through the ranks during the war with a reputation for strategizing as well as low casualties with his men.

Samuel blames himself for Oliver's Lycanthropy.
Intellectual Characteristics
While he can often come across as a bit of a control freak at times, this is largely due to him managing his anxiety. Samuel knows that he can’t account for nor control everything, so most of his controlling tendencies are more him trying to sure up what he can to minimize unpleasant surprises down the line. This was also a major factor in selecting candidates for the Wraiths as he wanted individuals who could follow orders and not serve their own agenda, but act independently when needed.
Morality & Philosophy
Sam values those under his command and takes great responsibility for them. As such, he abhors recklessness that gets people killed, be it from officers giving ineffective commands or subordinates mocking authority.
Sam himself knows that he is not immune to making mistakes and/or losing men. As such, he makes sure to examine what went wrong and learn from it.

Samuel is a master strategist, not only utilizing his team's strengths, but placing them where they're able to act independently if needed.
Unfortunately, his fixation on planning out the team's jobs and general stiff personality often makes building relationships with his team difficult at times.

Relationships
History
Ashe and Samuel started out in the Calian army together where the two became friends. After Ashe became infected with Lycanthropy, Sam was the only one who didn't sever ties with him. Granted, this was partly due to Sam blaming himself for the tragedy since he failed to account for one of the wolves flanking their unit and Ashe took the bite while protecting him. The two remained in touch even after Ashe became a drifter.
