Thri-Kreen

Appearance

Tall, insectoid creatures, it is very difficult for other races to determine gender among the Thri-kreen, giving rise to the notion that all Thri-kreen are male. The carapace of a thri-kreen is typically a sandy yellow in hue, but could vary from a sandy brown to a pale green color, as best suited the environment. This enables thri-kreen to blend in with the dry savannas and grasslands they dwell in. They have six limbs protruding from their thorax: two for walking and four for use as arms, ending in four-fingered claw-like hands capable of tool- and weapon-use. Their insectoid heads have two black, multi-faceted compound eyes; two small antennae sprouting from the top; and a complex jaw structure with large sharp mandibles.   Thri-kreen wear little to no clothing or armor. Instead, they wear only simple leather belts, harnesses, or slings to hold their food, equipment, and weaponry, and only as much as they needed. They are not know to make or wear any kind of adornments

Average Characteristics

  • Age: 29-35 years
  • Size: Thri-kreen can grow to anywhere between 3.5-7ft in height and weight anywhere from 100-375lbs.

Locations

The Thri-kreen claim most of the southwestern portion of Umberfell, from the High Steppe to the Scar. While they claim a vast swath of territory, most of the popluation is gathered in a few hive cities that resemble enormous termite mounds. Each of these cities is ruled over by a queen and the largest is Queenspire (in the common tounge) from where The High Queen Lirekus rules and oversees her people.

History

The Thri-kreen are not native to Vestra, but rather came as interstellar refugees, having crashed to the earth in 320 PF. In general, little is known about who or what this insectoid race was fleeing, but they found Vestra very much to their liking and quickly began establishing new territories. In those early days there was much conflict with the human and tabaxi population that still called the area home, but as western Ellebore was tamed, many of those humans chose to leave and seek out new lives on the new continent.
