Parliti - Golgelen Kelp

Parliti is a well-known kelp known for forming the dense, underwater 'kelp jungles' that are found alongside the coast of Dekarth -- and most notably, the The Pinching Gulf. It's a very important part of Dekarti aquaculture due to its ability to house the vast ecosystem that surrounds Dekarth's coast.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Parliti is a massive, long-stalked aquatic plant that grows from the bottom of a shallow sea-coast. Parliti also grows special pods, often simply called Parliti fruit; this fruit is a bright, bioluminescent and spongy pod that develops along the sides of the plants. At night, they cast a dull, light glow that shines through the water's surface. A species of kelp, it has long, green stalks that it uses for photosynthesis.

Genetics and Reproduction

Massive, glowing pods are found lining the stalk of the Parliti kelp; these pods can sometimes rupture, but are typically fed upon by wildlife. The pods release a dull, yellow and sticky cloud that drifts towards the bottom of the seabed shortly after they're ruptured or ripped open, allowing the seas to re-sprout as new kelp pods.

Ecology and Habitats

Parliti requires fairly shallow waters, but still needs water that's deep enough to house the incredibly long stalk. They generally grow close towards a coastline and form a vast undersea jungle.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Parliti is often farmed because it's an easy and manageable aquatic plant; it's also edible. The leaves are capable of being dried out or eaten wet, while the pods that are found glowing across the Parliti are known for their somewhat bizarre and salty consistency. These 'sea fruit' are often reserved for peasants due both the abundance and slimy consistency they pose, and are not often found in your typical noble affair.   Parliti pods are also sometimes used in Alchemy to distill tonics; particularly those that have to pertain with breathing under water or manipulating the density and weight of an object.
