Mylings

Mylings are a species of dangerous creatures native to Vilstrung. Their name translates roughly to 'Cave Children' in the Villish tongue. They're tiny humanoids that are generally the size of a small child, with slouched shoulders and wide, fangy mouths whose corners stretch towards a pair of very long, expressive ears that are capable of individual movement. Though the rest of their body is hairless, Mylings grow mops of black hair that can reach far to their thighs. Their eyes are wide and milky, and glow under the cover of night.   Mylings are so much of a grave fear that they're either killed on sight, or outright avoided; they're typically only seen within the farflung northern reaches of Vilstrung.

Anatomy

Asides from being hairless with smooth-white skin, their mouths have very sharp teeth that are exceptionally long, to the point that their faces are often left disfigured from the sheer size of their razor-sharp fangs. Their hands are tipped with disproportionately long claws that are twice as long as the hand that that carries them. Although they are dangerous in their numbers, Mylings are fragile and often hunted due to the danger they present if left free to grow.

Voices in the Snow

Mylings are capable of making rudimentary mimics of voices that they hear. These voices are often much more unsettling than they are realistic due to them being incapable of perfectly mirroring the sounds of human voices. However, they still remain just barely audible to come off as a litany of different whispers that can lead to confusing explorers that wander too far within the cold reaches of Vilstrung.

Diet & Predation

Mylings are pack hunters that form small gangs that wander through the snows at night. These marching hordes can become dangerous and overwhelming for anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path, especially when paired with their whispers and shrieks that mimic noises just barely human enough to tempt travelers to investigate them. They feed exclusively on meat, and use their voices to lure unsuspecting prey.   When a Myling eats well enough and grows, it may eventually grow into a Doppelganger.

Hunt of the Mylings

Jung Kintikmyling or 'Hunt of the Mylings' is a common practice by the Villish people. It is less of a sport, and more of a necessary action in their eyes, as a fully grown Myling can run the risk of devastating a community once it ages well enough to become a Doppelganger. Mylings are a menace to Villish society and it's thus common practice to simply kill them on sight.
