Once, Verosa stood as a united world, whole and united by diversity. Serala created Humans, an adaptable people, to tend to the world and maintain its anchors - a series of towers that held the elements together in harmony. Centuries passed without note, and the humans expanded their civilization across the globe, diversifying and creating many unique cultures.
Humans harnessed the powers of magic and used it to manipulate reality. Serala forbade this blatant insult unto the gods, and the use of magic diminished until it ceased to be. However, approximately three thousand years prior to the current era, a circle of wizards began to study the forbidden magics surrounding the anchors of Verosa, and in pursuit of further knowledge, accidentally disabled one of the anchors. Verosa shuttered - the Unraveling had begun. Elements diffused from one another rapidly, drawn to other components like itself. As punishment from the goddess Serala, the circle of mages involved with the ritual immediately took on elemental traits, becoming the first generation of Genasi.

Over the course of just a few days, Verosa transformed entirely, separating into two layers: an outer shell of fragmented continents - floating islands adrift in a sea of air. Beneath, a core of roiling fire and water. The humans that survived the Unraveling slowly mutated, adapting to the world’s new geography. The Four remaining Anchors dictated the four elements, which established distinct sectors. The planet’s new core was composed of equal parts fire and water, with a ring of steam erupting from where they meet. This phenomenon provides water to the upper layer, allowing life to flourish on the little land that floats on the sea of air.
Humans living on the core adapted, with some supernatural assistance, to their new volatile environment. Two species emerged, the Triton and Lizardfolk, representing water and fire respectively. Above, gargantuan slabs of stone float on a tranquil sea of nothingness. Titans of stone carve away cities from the wreckage, devoting every ounce of their strength to making masterful works - these are the Goliath. Between the sequestered settlements, Aarakocra soar high above the roiling sea. The ever shifting land masses make navigation nigh impossible, yet these people never lose their way.
