The Youth's Day of Music

Written by UmbralGoat

The Day of Music is a Rite of Life celebrated in all districts of Dreska. It's held every year, in the final week of Seþivur, typically spread over multiple days depending on how many young Dreskans qualify.

Many Dreskans will often have an idea of the path they wish to take following their growth to adulthood, whether it be further years of study and education, artistry, writing, research, and many others.

The Celebration

The celebrations on the Day of Music begin very early in the morning; most will set aside their entire day just to stay in attendance.

In preparation for this milestone in their life, many young Dreskans may prepare a small showcase of what they intend to pursue in the future, and is a chance for them to show off any current passion project they may be working on.

In addition, as the name of the ceremony implies, it is tradition for Dreskans to show their musical ability through a performance on an instrument of their choosing. These performances are often very competitive, considering this is also a chance for the young adults to impress with their skills with music. They can range from intense operatic concertos to fast-paced dance music, a particular favorite as it gets the audience involved.

As the suns set, a massive feast is held for all in attendance. Speeches are given from parents and guardians, showing their pride for their children and hope for their future in whatever they do. During the feast, many are offered their first alcoholic beverages, as their rise to adulthood is also marked by the cross in the legal age to consume alcohol in Dreska.

For Dreskans, exploration of one's gender and orientation is a very common and open aspect of life in their early years, and it's during the Day of Music that many will declare their identities at the feast. Of course, it is only optional, as there are some who do not know, and will continue their exploration of self.

Oooh, interesting concept! A battle of music, exploration of passion, and the openness of gender and orientation. It would be a lot to take in, but I suppose it also takes quite some time before a Dreskan arrives at this stage of life! Would it be somewhat similar to reaching the age of 21 in the US, just to verify my reference point? :)   Keep up the good work!! :D

Indeed it's the same idea! It's somewhat "modular" of a celebration; those who have certain things ready for it will present what they feel. Rites of Life vary in age between countries, but for Dreska, the age is around 19 or 20 in Vernelis' years.   And I will definitely try! ;3
