Salt en Iron Clinic
Set by the docks of Skentalla, the Salt en Iron Clinic is a run-down, crowded house of healing with an enforced policy of nonviolence. From brawls to scurvy, invalids of all kinds are sat in chairs or sprawled in beds in the main hall, while the second floor is divided into rooms for more severe injuries or illnesses. Teams of medics and clerics work all hours applying bandages, administering medicines, and casting blessings. In addition to the healers, security is also present to ensure no further injuries are caused.
Once inside the clinic doors, there are no enemies. While this is generally upheld by all, some especially stubborn folk will try to pick fights even while holding their own guts in. Others, while perfectly healthy, will attempt to gain entry to the clinic to finish off a wounded rival. While the injured are restrained and treated anyhow, the intruders are granted no quarter. Sent out on the end of a guard's boot, their cowardly actions earn them a solid beating and a bed. Between this vigilante justice and the mettle of medic and guard alike, incidents have become fairly rare in recent years.
Purpose / Function
The Salt en Iron Clinic was meant to be a temporary measure, a stopgap for seaborne illness and increased infighting. Problem was, Skentalla's government wouldn't spend one kel more than needed on anything but trade. Since the clinic worked, it was never expanded. Salt en Iron has become a permanent fixture and the only public clinic in Skentalla.
Salt en Iron Clinic is one of Skentalla's very few public buildings, paid for by market tax and tariffs. The kel invested into the clinic goes towards paying medics, keeping the structure sound, and buying supplies as needed. Clerics from local shrines will volunteer in rotation but are not paid. The building's protection is composed of city guards and the occasional volunteer muscle working off their time in a bed.
