Foods and Delicacies From Across the Territories

"It is essential that any Emissary is able to stomach even the most unusual of dishes from across the Peacekeeper Territories. There is no better way to build rapport with a people than showing them you like their food, no matter how disgusting it might be."

Background

It has long been recognised that understanding a culture's food gives you a better understanding of their history and their principles. The dishes listed below are taken from across the Peacekeeper Territories.   It is worth noting that while this article is broken up into starter, main, dessert, meals, breakfasts and snacks, these are not necessarily constructs which are present on all planets. But as these are used in Pachian cultures, dishes from other cultures will be shoe-horned into them for the purposes of the organisation of this information.   Each of the four systems will be highlighted with the following colours:

The Primary Territories
The Aspiration System

Starters

Blan Krana

Blan Krana is a traditional Asoran starter, made with four simple elements, and the name roughly translates as 'four flavours'. The base is pickled seaweed, with sharp raw fruit chopped on top of it. In the center is a hollowed out gourd which provides the crunch, and then on top is the head of a small sea creature known as a Qwibli which is surprisingly sweet.

"Despite being an Asoran dish, the Blan Krana is not necessarily as bland as it sounds. The ingredients by themselves are somewhat pedestrian and unimaginative. Asor is, after all, an ocean-heavy planet, so seaweed and qwibli are hardly exciting.   However, if prepared correctly, the contrasting flavours and textures combine to create something actually rather good. The soft sharp fruit contrasts with the texture of the gourd and the saltiness of the seafood. It can be a satisfying breakfast."

Kranta

Kranta is a delicacy, created from the leaves and flowers of the Kran plant.   The plant is highly poisonous unless it is completely dried out, and supposedly tastes extremely bitter in this state. Once dried it can be salted and has a spicy heat which sets it apart.

Tnu Soup

Tnu soup is made from a mixture of Tnu blood and roast vegetables.   Tnu's are plentiful, and their body parts are all used for various different purposes, and so there is no shortage of this particular soup. It is creamier than expected, but still has that unmistakeable metallic taste.

Mains

Braaaaahgraaaurgh

Braaaaahgraaaurgh, sometimes spelled "Braaaaaaaargraughhhh", is a dish traditionally eated by the Terror from Triumph.   As all of their dishes are mostly plant-based, the combination here of leaves is very important. What seperates this from other dishes from Triumph is the treatment of the leaves with a spicy oil. This gives it a rather pungeant smell, and the different types of leaves react differently, making some of them softer and some more crispy.

Fraga

Fraga is considered the "perfect dish", particularly by the Primians.   It consists of a precisely cooked steak, topped with a gel made from a combination of fruit juices and fat from the beast itself, that has a salty and sweet taste. Traditionally, this is made from Ikkne steak, but any large red meat will work.

Ovorp

Ovorp is a seafood pasta dish from the people of Eluryh. It is thought of as a dish of the people.   It is pasta in a bitter sauce, with a boiled ovo on top, and additional ovo eggs around it. Praskar’s Breast

The Praskar’s Breast is a common dish in the islands of the northern hemisphere of Succeed, where the Praskar is particularly common.   The dish is prepared by plucking the bird, soaking it for several days in a mix of oils, herbs and spices, before then roasting it over the fire. While this cooks the whole bird, the breast is considered the best and most succulent part.

Mucor

Mucor is from Harmony and is a delicious sweet treat.   The dessert is deep-fried batter with a Rito Grub in the center. The Rito Grub is slightly bitter and balances out the sweetness of the batter. They are sometimes served with creamed Rito Grubs mixed with Rito honey to elevate the dish.

"No one I know is a fan of grubs of any kind. Well, perhaps there are a few Majorans who still partake in Grubble and other traditional dishes, but with that exception no sane person eats bugs.   And that was very much my stance until I was fed Mucor at a dinner party. If I'd known what was in it I might not have tried it and that would have been a shame.   The batter is soft and light, with a satisfying sweet crunch around the outside, but the treat really is the Rito Grub in the center. It has a tart bitterness which bursts on the tongue and cuts through what would otherwise be sickly sweet. It is a delight."

Breakfasts

Flarg Platter

The Flarg Platter has different components in different parts of the planet, but this is the most common combination.   Usually you would have a Chiji Bug, served with two different sauces, one sticky and sweet, and the other creamy and rich. There are also two or more root vegetable dumplings which have a pickled Chiji Bug inside them, to cut through the otherwise bland of the dumplings. Occassionally, it is garnished with local fresh herbs and roughly chopped raw vegetables - but only when being eaten by somone other than a Clebveth. The Clebveth focus only on the bugs, and see everything else as decoration.

Grubble

Grubble is a traditional Majoran dish, using the mealworms which are plentiful on P'Ache Major.   Grubble is roast mealworms, with the innards scooped out, mashed up and then put back inside. The innards have something of a slimy consistency, and the carapace adds a crunch which the Majorans find extremely satisfying.

"At least it wasn't still moving. The lightly roasted grub was somehow crunchy and slimy at the same time. The taste was fine, somewhat salty and fatty, but it didn't make up for the legs and section of carapace which I was removing from my mouth for hours afterwards. If you have to try it once, then do it, but carry a toothpick. You probably won't bother again."

Trangen

Trangen is a deep fried breakfast dish, which was traditionally a working-man's food, but has since been elevated to elite status.   The balls contain Globnan, a fungal ball which is extremely delicate and can burst if handled with too much pressure. Thanks! I went a bit overboard with the directories but I find them really useful for story writing - having one place to refer to. :D Thank you.
