Session 16 Report

General Summary

After sleeping the night, the party got up to find a note from the Innkeeper's wife, inviting them for a special breakfast. Yerin decided to sleep in, as he had had a pretty wild night.    After an invigorating breakfast, the party headed to the forest to look for their kill and perhaps take some of the spoils. They found the place where they slew the Avatar of Statsra, but discovered that most of the body had already dissolved. The antlers remained however, and another person was investigating them. He introduced himself as Barathon of Greyhaven, a scholar and hunter that studies monsters and other creatures, but specializes in Dragons. During a conversation with the party, he theorized that the group of Kobolds that came to this region, must have had a reason for doing so, a reason that is probably related to the presence of a Dragon. He thinks that the Kobolds are looking for this Dragon, to worship it.    The party wanted to persuade him to come with them towards the cursed lake that they read about in a book, but he declined. He said that he would be heading towards Rannalla to further his search for the Dragon, as most of the Kobold trails seemed to be heading that way.   The party gathered the antlers left by the Avatar and headed towards the city, where they found Yerin. They went to Stag Hall, to discuss everything that had happened in the past days and to talk about the future of the city. The Jarl and most of his family were there and they were worried about an impending war with Rannalla. The Jarl wished to contact the Bluecloaks, as they had more experience with fighting the The Duke of the Pale, and was going to send his eldest daughter to the west to look for allies that would honor old treaties that were signed in centuries past. The party investigated the corpse left by the mage that attacked the city yesterday and used their magic to make it speak, in order to ask it questions.    After their ritual was done, they sent a message to the Bluecloaks they met on the roads in the previous weeks, to meet them here to talk about an alliance with the Jarl. The Jarl had also divulged that he wanted to post a formal contract on the Duke with the Inquisition. As he was a mage, he figured that they would be willing to help for the right price. He would send a bird to Oppisal to request their aid, and wanted to put the party forward as a suggestion. The contract's reward would be 10000 gold pieces and a position of standing within Hindarskjall. Along with the bird that he sent to the Inquisiton chapterhouse, the party made their own letter with their report.   The other matter left unresolved was to finish the duel between Yerin and Rho, and the Jarl's children Ragnar and Gunhild. An arena was set up in the birdcage in the menagerie, and they were led to it. As the pair entered the circle, its boundaries were set alight, and the fight began.   Gunhild was the first to go down, with Yerin following after. Rho and Ragnar exchanged blows, they were clearly very evenly matched. In the end, both were battered and bloodied and right before Rho hit the dirt, he managed to knock Ragnar out in a spectacular fashion. They had won this year's brawl and the 500 Gold pieces that came with it.    The party prepared for the coming weeks in their own way, while they awaited the returning messages from Oppisal and the meeting with the Bluecloaks.
