Age of the Gods

The first age, wherein the world was created by the original Gods and spirits. Little is factually known about this time, things like its inception, how long it lasted, and who exactly walked the world in this time is unknown. It is said that before the time of mortals, the gods and Elder Spirits walked the lands themselves, creating the world around them as they went.   Though little is known of the time period itself, many, if not all of the oldest religious myths stem from this time. These myths deal with the issues, tasks and struggles of the Elder spirits themselves and the way they created the world. There are also many stories of strife and great battles taking place during this time. Because of its ancient nature, skeptics will often ask how it is that these myths came to be recorded, as no one could have been there to witness the events, since mortals as we know them were not yet created.   It's widely accepted that the era began when the world was born, as before this time there was nothing to keep track of. The era ended with the Age of Dragons, the legendary era wherein the Gods departed the world and left it to mortals that were created in their images. Why the Gods left is unknown, but it is said that their departure slowly drained the world of magic, as it was never replenished after they had gone. That is, until the recent event known as The Melding.   The gods supposedly inhabiting the world in these times go by many names, though most of them should fall somewhere in the loose pantheon of the Elder Spirits of Creation. Most shamans, theologians and scholars would agree that these beings were the ones that created the world, however, because of their fluid nature, they go by many names and guises in different cultures.
