Changelings Temp Name

The Changelings are an odd race of magically changed creatures who became something more. They are the second guardians of the forest of Niafothra and live alongside the Abien though both races maintain a separation of 'kingdoms'.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Every changeling is different on a fundamental level, their commonality is bioluminescent markings and a tendency to change forms regularly.

Biological Traits

The only commonality among changelings are the bioluminescent sigils, glyphs, and runes that decorate their oddly colored fur, scales, or hides. They are also known to change forms rather often, this leads to it being hard to identify them.

Ecology and Habitats

The entire race is a byproduct of the ancient magics that changed Niafothra. As such they have a near singular ability to navigate and survive such an environment without falling prey to the dangers.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They typically interact in small packs, regardless of the preferred species to emulate. This is both for safety as well as an appreciation for social interaction. They are rather rigid on defining the hierarchy of those packs, choosing a mix of proven prowess and ability as well as majority approval. While they define themselves as a kingdom in the eyes of the empire, they operate more as a council of packs.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Changelings can be found across the empire in small concentrations but only call Niafothra home.

Average Intelligence

Despite their animalistic appearances, they are very intelligent and capable of speech.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Changelings all have heightened sense of smell and hearing that help them navigate as well as survive the forest they call home.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Changelings tend to names that directly involve their observable features, talents, skills, or features of nature. This often leads to names shared with Abien.

Gender Ideals

It is unknown if the changelings observe gender or can change that at will as well.

Common Etiquette Rules

It is considered rude to kill a creature of the same type as they form a changeling guide is bearing at any given time. It is also considered rude to ask to pet or otherwise touch a changeling. Above all though, much like the Abien, it is problematic to not acknowledge one when seen.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Changeling culture is built around their animalistic heritage, primarily focused on retellings of epic hunts, and the exploration of new natural wonders. They tend towards singing and theatrics among the arts. The heart of their culture is also mischievousness as they share a love of pranking and confusing travelers.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

There seems to be a common custom of changelings guiding travelers into and out of Abien  territories. They also tend to hold summits on each solstice for all the packs, this is assumed to be when major decisions are made.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Chagelings have an odd relationship with other races. They tend to be seen as pranksters and often inconvenient, though everyone keeps in mind that they are in fact very powerful beings that help defend the divide.
Lifespan
125
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
They typically are of outlandish 'unnatural' coloration and pattern for whatever creature they currently share a form with. They also each have a unique pattern of bioluminescent markings made up of both natural patterns and arcane symbolism.
