Great Beneath
I have been there, stood on the ground made of pure ecological decay and marine snow, and looked upon Her resting place. She gazed back, her verdant eyes a vertitable blaze so far below. She yet breathes, creating life in that deep dark where there was once naught but death.
Geography
The Great Beneath is the deepest point within the Calèdare Sea, found beneath the Humming Strait between the Cleaved Sisters in the south. It originally hosted no known life, being a barren trench at the bottom of the sea, until Marëanna was slain and dumped there. The trench sits between two underwater mountains, making the dip in the ground beneath the waves all the more exaggerated.
Ecosystem
Life, while alien to the Great Beneath, has flourished in the two millennia since Marëanna came to rest there. Kelp plants a mile tall grow at the bottom, algae clings to nearly every rocky surface, and bioluminescent carniverous anemone sway in the gentle current. Fish of all sizes dwell within the chasm, though most are fairly small enough to be skipped as another's next meal. Marine snow, plummeting down from the upper levels of the sea, is the lifeblood of the thriving ecosystem within the Great Beneath.
Localized Phenomena
The current that passes through the Great Beneath is not natural. It is created by the breath of Marëanna as she lays in recovery. While no light from the surface reaches the Great Beneath, the current there is cyclical based on the time of day. During daylight hours, the current is blown away from the Drowned Goddess, pushing loose sediment and plant matter up the cliff furthest from her. During the night, this current shifts to be pulled towards her, bringing similar refuse towards her. Because of this phenomenon, there is pile of organic matter in various stages of decomposition in the location it is believed that the Drowned Goddess lay.
