Castle Albion

Castle Albion is a walled complex, housing The Valorian Temple, the Parliament House, and the Palace.

With its gleaming white walls and towers, and the three beautiful structures within, Castle Albion is an impressive sight, and a capitol worthy of Valor's lofty ideals. Paintings and tapestries of the castle are popular among the nobility for their country manor houses, or especially with those who live in Damerel Shire.

Purpose / Function

The castle was originally a fortified area capable of housing all of Albion during an invasion or disaster. As the city's outer defenses were built up, this function lapsed, though the Valorian Temple still advocates to keep the castle wall intact and defenses in place, just in case they are someday needed.

The main stairs and archway to the Castle are left open, and while the glares of castle gods keep out most with no business to be there, they certainly do not prevent all wanderers and loiterers. The Castle Garden is one of the more romantic places in the city, with fragrant flowers and plenty of sheltered places to sit close together. There are also plenty who come through on their way to Valor Ascendant's Victory Hall, another popular meeting place.

Alterations

The walls had to be expanded once, as the structures within grew, but for the most part, the castle has been kept the same over the years. It is well-maintained, and no one sees any call to re-design such an iconic structure.

Architecture

The castle is built of albion stone, with dark wooden crossbeams within and blue clay roof tiles. The wall is fully contained, with a continuous path along the top, which is mostly open. The exception is the North walk, which is somewhat enclosed by a colonnade, with a roof overhead.

Each vertex features an enclosed tower with arrow slots and a pitched roof. There is enough room in each for a ballista--it is disputed whether these were originally present, or only planned, but the schematics and measurements remain in the Valorian Temple archives. The machines would need to be built in place, and would not be able to be removed without being dismantled, especially on account of the rotating platform base.
