Calligrapher's Supplies

Bookworm

You know a lot about the properties of books, paper, and parchment. You're able to assess the age of these materials with high accuracy. Additionally, you know common classification systems, being able to navigate libraries, or sift through the pages of a book to find relevant information more quickly. When making a skill check to search a book for information, or search a library for a book, add this tool's proficiency bonus to the result of the check.

Cipher & Decipher

You have knowledge about ciphers, gaining the ability to hide the content of what you write, as well the ability to decipher other encrypted messages, granting you advantage on ability checks made to create or decrypt a cipher.

Mimic Writing

Though not as extensive as a Forgery Kit, you are able to attempt replicating another's handwriting to a greater extent, adding this tool's proficiency bonus to the result of the check.

Spell Scroll Crafting

Crafting a Spell Scroll has several requirements. The scroll you are making must be of a spell that you know, and you must be proficient with Calligraphers Supplies. You then spend the component cost, measured in GP, for the spell level of the scroll you are creating. The component cost can be reduced by utilizing alchemical or magical components. An amount of time must be spent working on the scroll, per the spells level as listed on the chart below. Upon completion of all of these requirements, a final outpouring of magical power must be channeled into the Spell Scroll to complete the enchantment. This can be done by a expending a spell slot of equal level to channel its energt into the scroll, or by utilizing an equivalent source of Aether or magical power. Professional scroll makers often invest in an Aethershard with a entrapped Elemental, using it as a renewable source of energy to consistently power their scrolls.   Spell Scrolls require an object to write upon such as parchment, vellum, or high quality paper (though it can be anything as exotic as a stone slab or piece of bark). Some instrument for marking upon the chosen object is used, which must create lasting, permanent markings. Most commonly a high quality ink is used, though engraving (if the material can sustain it) is equally lasting. In theory, the mediums used can be anything, such as drawing lines in the sand with a stick. However, any clear fault in the script of the scroll causes it to lose its power and become worthless.   An attempt to craft a Spell Scroll can be made by anyone that can cast spells, even without proficiency in Calligraphers Supplies. Without Calligraphers Supplies proficiency, there is a risk of failure. In such a case, upon spending the component and time costs needed for the spell, at the moment that magical energy is poured into the scroll to finalize it, the creator of the scroll must roll 1d20 + their spell attack modifier. This roll is made against a Spell Scroll DC. The Spell Scroll DC is equal to the 10 + the spell's level (cantrips are level 0). If the DC is failed, the scroll is destroyed and all components spent upon it are lost.
