Dragonborn

Descended in ages past from the bloodlines of dragons, Dragonborn are something of a rarity in Vallanna.
Physically, Dragonborn resemble Dragons, but in a more humanoid configuration, both in terms of size and posture. They lack wings; most also lack a tail, although some clans of Dragonborn still retail their tails. Arguments have been made as to whether this is a holdover kept to certain families, or whether those with tails consist a separate sub-species.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Bipedal. Facially similar to dragons. A minority of clans have retained their tails from their draconic ancestors, although most Dragonborn do not have such tails.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn hatch from eggs, lain by their mother, and fertilised by their father. Usually, several eggs will be lain by the mother at a time, so finding a dragonborn who is an only-child is a rarity.

Growth Rate & Stages

Compared to humans, dragonborn grow rapidly, finding their feet within hours of hatching. At the age of about 3 years old, they are the equivalent size and development as a 10 year old human, and are considered to have reached adulthood proper at the age of about 15 years old.

Social Structure

Dragonborn can be found in closely-knit clans; loyalty to which is the most important thing in a Dragonborn's life. Each Dragonborn knows their station and responsibilities to their clan, and strives to maintain them. Bringing dishonor to the clan can result in expulsion and exile.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Dragonborn naming convention is to put their clan-name first, followed by their personal name. At younger ages, and between siblings, they may often be known by a simpler nickname.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Most Dragonborn can speak and write both Common and Draconic. The Draconic language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
