Illana

Accounts of Illana are fleeting. Her name is only found found once, a transcription of a Faithful's conversation with Altri, and even this mention appears to be accidental.   Nevertheless there are figures in other cultures that seem to match what is known of Illana. The Melat have a great reverence for a being or possibly even idea they call 'Radiance.' The description of Radiance, a shining force that steals the very light of flames, match the description of Illana, seemingly a water or ocean goddess of some sort.   Altri and Illana appear to be enemies. If this and Illana being god of the ocean are true, it would explain the difficulty of traversing the seas of Valkosh.

My father always told me, "Son, never become a sailor." But the sea had always fascinated me. When he died and I inherited everything, I thought I could finally do what I wanted, so I sold his farm and bought a ship. A good one too. I figured I'd sail for this Valgeer place, however far that was. Well, I set off and it goes smoothly until I lose sight of land, of old Hadrim. Then it gets bad. Waves taller than any tree I've ever seen and lightning edged nearer with every strike. I was holding to the edge of the boat when I looked down and saw it. I thought it was just a weird pattern, but then I realized what it was: an eye. Circular, burning blue, and big. Too big to see the end of it. My ship went down. I only survived because another sailor, more experienced than me, was close by. They hauled me to shore and now I'm here to tell you: Never become a sailor.
