King Alane

King

Youth

-The prince is restless, Your Majesty.
-I know, he is my son. I will take him to the negotiations.
-But the prince is too young...
-I'll be dead soon, and he'll be one on the throne. Prince Alane needs to learn how to rule the kingdom.
— Queen Zaos

Alane was the only child of Queen Zaos. His father died in battle when he was one year old. After the King's death, the Queen took the throne. A decade of good fortune and peace for the kingdom. Her people prospered and adored their Queen and little prince. Even from a young age, he was charming, smart, generous and humble. Queen Zaos raised him to be a good king after she was gone.

Prosperity ended when another Kingdom invaded their land and tried to take people, animals and other valuable resources by force. They had mistaken Queen Zaos calm reign and cheerful demeanour for weakness. She wasn't afraid of war. She knew conflict will arrive at her beloved kingdom sooner or later. She had prepared an army to face it.

Seven years lasted the war. Many soldiers from both sites died on the battlefields. Many innocent found death at the hands of hunger, diseases or the enemy's army. Despite all of that, the people still trusted their Queen and their Prince. Alane always wanted to go with his mother to the campaigns, but she refused. His life was too precious to be put in danger. Alane was his beloved son and the kingdom's hope for better days.

Alane stayed behind to fulfil his mother's duties when she was away fighting for their freedom. Servants and other people on the court respected him even if he was only a child. He had that effect on people.

One year before the war ended, Queen Zaos's health began to decline. The light she always irradiated diminished, as well as her strength. Queen Zaos was fading away. Alane was deeply worried for his mother, and the kingdom's fate. He helped the Queen to command the army. Finally, a peace treaty was arranged between the two Kingdoms.

One day after Queen Zaos and Prince Alane returned to the castle, she breathed one last time in her son's arms. King Alane's reign had begun.

Reign

-Raise the tax for the lords and nobility. Including me. Use the money to buy more seeds and food for the poor.
-Your Majesty. Do you think this is wise?
-Yes. I do think is wise not to allow my people to starve to death.

King Alane was even more loved by his people after he was crowned. Despite his youth, he showed great skills as a ruler: he did his best to protect his subjects, advance science, expand literacy and encourage others to act with justice when someone committed a serious crime. Nobility wasn't very happy with the high taxes, but they were still very rich, and their properties weren't in danger to pass to the Kingdom's state.

Alane reinforced the peace treaty and made a point to develop strong diplomatic relationships with many other Kings and Queens to avoid war. He has witnessed the horrors it brought, saw her mother languish and die because of it. She made him promise he wouldn't start another war, and he was determined to keep his promise.

The young King grew up to be a gracious ruler, respected and loved, never feared. After passing his 20th birthday, his advisers pressured him to get married and have descendants. Alane wasn't interested in marriage or having children. Now his kingdom was prospering he wanted to take a little time to enjoy life and have fun.

Fall

-What happened to our King?
-He's no longer himself. We are doomed.
-Only one thing could save us all.
— Traitors plotting to murder King Alane

Many years later, King Alane received an invitation he couldn't refuse. The invitation was Lylla's portrait and her letter. At the time, he thought Lylla would be a fun challenge, and adventure, an opportunity to enjoy his body with another lover. He was still unmarried, but he had fathered three children. The status of the children as heirs was still in dispute, but they and their mothers received nobility treatment.

King Alane found Lylla, and everyone on court was surprised at how deeply in love the King was with her. Many welcomed the idea that Alane marry her and finally settled to form a family. Others loathed the idea of a foreign and scandalous woman becoming their Queen. Alane did not marry her, instead he tried to kill her and unleashed Lylla's curse.

When the King returned to his castle, the charming, generous and gentle ruler was gone. Alane became cruel and vengeful. He broke his promise to his late mother: he declared war and invaded the Kingdoms he was once called allies. King Alane won the war, and he named his new kingdom Valabrad. Alane forgot about caring for his people. Suffering and desperation spread all over Valabrad, mixed with blood, pain and diseases.

King Alane's court filled with liars and traitors. One of them was very skilled in deception and manipulated the King to reveal the truth behind his abrupt change. The same noble convinced Alane to share his magic powers. Shortly after that, King Alane was stabbed in the back and died. Valabrad's history of betrayals, despair and death had begun.

Amorous' life

King Alane was an adventurer. He had a thirst for new experiences. He desired to enjoy his body (alone or with others). Every person he took to bed before he met Lylla said he was a considerate and incredible gentle lover. They said he always wanted to make sure all the people involved gave freely consent to the happenings and had a good time with him. Although he enjoyed power in his intimate moments, that didn't mean he was the one using it or forcing others to do his will. No, Alane believed in sharing and caring for others.

Flirting with the King

two hands touching

The King developed a way to communicate his amorous intentions to people he liked with subtle gestures when he was in public events:
  • I like you: one touch in the left arm close to the wrist.
  • I want to know you better: One touch in the right arm close to the wrist.
  • I desire you: a squeeze with both hands on the shoulders.
  • Thank you for a lovely encounter: A hand in the back close to the nape.
  • I want a second visit: A hand in the back close to the nape.
The rule was that Alane initiated the contact, and if the other person was interested, they repeated the gestures. If they did not, the King wouldn't pursue them further. No hard feelings.

King Alane had private quarters to enjoy his time with his numerous lovers. He never forced anyone to accompany him there, and not anyone had the privilege to receive an invitation. Once there, the guest had the chance to experience all kinds of luxuries. The bed was big with comfortable silk sheets and soft cushions but wasn't always needed or used. There was a display of various items to catch guests' attention.
So many opportunities for explorations and pleasure. There was also an impressive collection of clothes and costumes, and ropes. The King was proud of his quarters, and part of his pleasure was seeing others have a good time because of his actions.
