Yudonian Archipelago

The Yudonian archipelago is an island chain located on the central part of the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of 4 major islands, counted by locals as 5 "emerging lands" as east and west Isola are counted as 5 separate entities, and more than a hundred minor islands.

Discovery

The archipelago was most likely discovered by a Greek civilization previous than Troy, but there only exists proof about the mentioned one occupying the archipelago soon before the Trojan wars. It is unknown how far does native settlement date, but it is known that there was people living in Provont at least 200 years before the Troy war started.

Main islands

  • Isola:
  • Isola is the main and biggest island of the archipelago. It is also where the capital city of Yudonia, Plavit, is located, as well as many economic powers of the country. This island is also where the Yudonian culture originates, as well as the "Kilometer zero" of the national system of Yudonian Highways, and where the biggest airport of the country is located.
  • Provenza
  • Also called Provont, Provenza is another of the 4 main islands. It is located north of Isola and holds the metropolitan area of Provenza. The island is the homeland of the Proventine culture as well as the dialect with same name. Its capital, Provenza, if often mistakenly thought to be the capital of Yudonia for its widespread influence.
  • Metia
  • Metia is one of the biggest non-major islands of the archipelago. It is located between Isola and Provont, to the west of both islands. It shows a mixture of both Yudonian and Proventine cultures and dialects, sometimes being considered as part of the "core" territories of the Proventine ethnicity but most of the times considered as just an ethnically Yudonian territory with some influence from the Proventines. It shows a mixed accent on its citizens, beautiful beaches, contemporary cuisine and an active volcano.
  • Prunt
  • Prunt is the easternmost island of the archipelago, having a very unique and sometimes conflicting culture and language, different than Yudonian. Not as what happens with Provenza, Prunt has a completely different language than Yudonian, not just a dialect of "Traditional Yudonian" like the case of the island of Provenza. Pruntese people are a proud community which love their homeland and worship their traditions and culture to various extremes. The island is an economic and populational major of the country, being forced to stay as part of Yudonia in many occasions in the past, instead of becoming an independent country.
  • Rondes
  • Although its nam's origin is unknown, as some think it could come from the word "round" in romance languages, but others support the idea of the island being called "Rhodes" as the Trojans found a new home. In reality, there are hundreds of theories, but the most accepted one is that the word Rondes came from Spanish "Rondo", a shorter version of the word "redondo" meaning "round". The island itself has gained the nickname "The Olive", because of its large plantations of olives most of which directed towards the production of olive oil. The island has a very deep eastern accent with strong influence from Arabic sounds.
